I NEED AN EXPLANATION FOR THIS TRICKERY

Listened it it around 5 times.

I heard it the same each time.

I'm really not sure what I'm supposed to be hearing differently.

mental adjustment. It's your head adjusting to the lower pitch near the beginning end but then that means you percieve the next round higher than the last. If you pick out a certain section of sound (like beginning or end) and lazer your focus in on it; filter out the rest of the audio as it plays past it, you'll find that actually it didn't change.

same for speed but slow beginning/end, faster middle.

Some people don't latch on and adjust so it doesn't work all the time.

one thing that I think is pretty cool about this thing is the auditory illusion called the shepards tone (infinite rising tone)

But this is pretty interesting! I thought I was going crazy or something but I know that there are some audio illusions like there are optical illusions.

My favorite audio illusions are probably the infamous "Yanny or Laurel" and the sound where a ball is going up a set of stairs and it's really the same pitch the whole way through but you looking at the visual makes you think the pitch is getting higher and higher.

Yeah my ears are really weird then.

For the Yanny/Laurel thing I only hear something like Yannel.

And the ball going up the stairs sounds like the same thing over and over to me.

Initially, for Yanny and Laurel, I heard Yannel first and then I started to hear "Laurel" continuously.

Every time the ball escalates I hear the pitch rising forever and ever but for some reason, I also hear this faint overlay at the same time that's playing the same note.

And I think it's more your mind than your ears.
