Ah don't apologize. Not really your fault or a huge problem if you don't know what they are.

It's a genre of Korean music that is known for repetitive rhythm and vocal inflections. It's been around in Korea for like... 100 years. It tends to to be more popular among older Korean audiences.

In regards to kpop music's popularity outside of Korea, there isn't much interest in it either. People are more interested in the regular kpop groups like BTS or Blackpink.

Somi is a 4th gen soloist, and about the same age as other 4th gen artists, so she sorta counts. Really, she's both gens.

Yeah her longevity is insane. A lot of other popular female soloists like Sunmi and Chungha have flopped in the past few years and it's only really Taeyeon (and IU but she's IU) who is bucking that trend. 14 years in the game and still as popular as ever.
