I can't wait until BTS wins a Grammy...

  • When they do maybe they can finally do hip-hop again (in Korean PLEASE!)

Im not a BTS fan but because they are the biggest group ever, I keep an eye on them.

I love Dynamite but the other two.. not so much. Their latest English release is... not good imo. It feels forced for some reason. I blame Ed Sheeran. I hate, HATE using the term generic but its the best word to describe his music. He has not evolved in ten years.

    /end rant.

    Lets go Grammys!

You hate me? Well, remember it's mind over matter. I do not mind and you do not matter.

  • Its so sad people keep forgetting BE when the members put a lot of effort into those songs. 7/8 of those songs were in KOREAN and Dis-ease was hiphop. People keep shouting I MISS HIPHOP BANGTAN but songs like Respect and Dis-ease gets paid dust? Does that even make sense? Even their old HIPHOP tracks early in their discography aren’t being streamed as much but people still cry WE WANT MORE HIPHOP BANGTAN! You guys should show appreciation for those then? STREAM IT! Or do you all just want to cry and seek attention and join the anti bandwagon before even thinking rationally?

    THIS x 100000000

I am tired of reading "we want hiphop bangtan back" when the number of streams don't match the amount of whining "fans" I've seen. Dont get me started with the "we want ddaeng on Spotify" squad.. stream other rapline official tracks first and then we talk. all are just lipservice no action.

  • As others have said BE exists and they literally just did a cover of an iconic hip hop song that they wrote their own rap verses for and it was ah-mazing. I think you may need to keep a better eye on them...

Thank you for making this thread . Hoping all others who dont know any other korean songs made by BTS during 2020 -2021 can give them a listen too.

  • They just made 3 english pop songs. And their discography is full of hiphop. The sudden concern for them is funny.

People act like they have stopped making their old music, when all they did is trying different genres, while keeping their roots too.

  • I just hope for a promoted hip hop title track again. They can make how many English pop songs as they want I actually don't mind but don't just put them as their promoted singles only.

BE album as a whole is great but lacks promotions to a lot of amazing b-sides which are 10x times better than PTD imo.

  • Its so sad people keep forgetting BE when the members put a lot of effort into those songs. 7/8 of those songs were in KOREAN and Dis-ease was hiphop. This is the reason why I don’t take some of these comments seriously. Ex armys and non fans scream old BTS was better but majority of BTS most streamed songs are either pop tracks or new bangtan. They just rant a lot for hit tweets and yet the action doesn’t match :peperain:

  • I don't blame Ed Sheeran because he didn't force them to take this song. They decided to go for it so it's their decision. I thought it was a bad one but it is their career at the end of the day so yeah.

I personally tend to love fun and bright concepts more than dark concepts but PTD was the blandest one possible and it felt foreign to me. It had nothing of them. It was the stereotypical western white boy band style that Armys had tried for a long time to show to people that thought like that of BTS that they were not.

I also think that BE was really good and it was a step in the right direction musically but what matters more is what they choose to promote and have it represent them to those who don't know them. A lot of people won't look up more and by setting PTD they might think BTS is the typical teen oriented boy band.

This can be such a step back after all those years. And it's sad to me, considering the fact that they have the skills to make great music themselves.

I don't specific want a hip hop tt but one that's more them and that utilizes the rapline as well. The great balance between the rapline and the vocal line has always been one of their biggest strengths.

Anyway, I still hope that PTD was a one time thing.

  • They have released so many Korean songs since last year it's baffling when people say this.

I think part of it is alot of people are pressed (espesh non-fans and antis) that their english language songs are smashing in a ... wait for it...English language market (Mind Blown!)

So they want them to stay in their lane and come back down a peg or 10 by creating multiple cries about Korean language songs knowing that when they release a Korean song in the english market the reception is going to be expectedly different obviously.

I digress, but these people just give me stay in your lane tease with a dash of bitter.

  • Namjoon called it Dynamite era and I think that's how they view those 3 english tracks. I love the fact that Butter and PTD were so close because it's like they got it over and done with lol.

But as for the impression of teens etc. I Agree but I would feel more strongly about it if they were slowing down and this was their final tracks and lasting impressions they left with people after their amazing and varied discography. But as BTS is always releasing new music they'll come back with a different sound to draw a different crowd which will leave a different impression and please the ones who prefer less pop and I think that's the beauty for me. That something different is coming. If they indicated this was their sound permanently going forward then I dunno how long I could support that. I'm just waiting for a new album as this phase will also pass :borahae:

  • Well said. I agree with everything you said. But I do love dark concepts more haha.

People like to complain that fans forget BE exists, but it the end what they promote is what's most important and what will captivate the media and attract new fans. A single is a statement on how they want to be perceived. Also BE and to an extent 7 end up being forgotten because we had no concerts live shows etc. So a solo like Filter for instance ends up being forgettable compared to Serendipity since the latter was performed on a tour and we saw it over and over (it became more iconic).

  • How was making “Permission to Dance”? You can count on one hand how many BTS songs have a message as positive as in that song.

RM: Right. They talked about putting some rap in “Permission to Dance” while we were working on it, but we said it would never work. I have more fun when I’m singing and dancing than anything else. I think this song was one of the few times that I felt like I was just having fun while singing and dancing on it. It feels amazing to give into the song with your whole body and just laugh instead of thinking about it too much. I think that’s the power of the song. I wasn’t stressed preparing for it like I was with “Butter.” When it came to “Butter,” I had to think about what we should show off and how I could do that. I’m always careful not to be a problem within the group dynamic. But I didn’t really have to worry about that with “Permission to Dance.” Honestly, I felt like I only needed to add just a dash of the enjoyment I felt.

After the unimaginable continued success of “Dynamite” and “Butter,” this song feels a little more laid back.

RM: Oh, this is really fun. Just like that. And there’s a line in the lyrics that says, “We don’t need to worry / ’Cause when we fall we know how to land.” The message is universal, but you could say it’s also something BTS has been saying all along.

I hope some of you just listen to them, there is no gun pointing in their heads when they accept this song, so cut the "they are forced narrative"! I mean, its okay to not like the song (we all of course not like everything they put out) but please respect their decisions, its their music, their career!

  • Well said. I agree with everything you said. But I do love dark concepts more haha.

I totally agree with this. Personally, I think it was a mistake at this point of their career to choose this song to represent them. They are big enough that any song they release will do well and now they can show to the world what all of us have seen in BTS that made them truly special. PTD was an even more than usual autotuned flavorless song. It is their career and they had every right to choose this one to promote but it will do nothing for them and it will only perpetuate this image both they and the fan tried hard to get rid of. This has been their most divisive song for a reason.

I will try to remain optimistic because I know what they are capable of. They can make really great music so I am hopeful they will do it next time.

Namjoon called it Dynamite era and I think that's how they view those 3 english tracks. I love the fact that Butter and PTD were so close because it's like they got it over and done with lol.

I hope it is like that. My problem with this is that now they have this momentum and all eyes are on them so what they release is what they want to represented by on a more mainstream level. And it felt odd they chose such a song as PTD at such a moment. Because to me, and having looked around to many others as well, this is the least BTS single ever. So, it feels like a waste of this momentum not to do something more them.

  • I agree PTD doesn't feel like their song. But, it is what it is. 🤷‍♂️

At least the positive message of the song was delivered.

And, PTD is still a lot better than some kpop title tracks.

And I want another rapline song like Ugh, that was so-so good!!

I want another Outro Tear. A true masterpiece. :pepelove1:

This is why I am a little strict with BTS, they have released masterpieces that have blown me away.

You're ignoring an entire album, why do some of you act like BE doesn't exist?...

Maybe this is why they're not doing their regular releases and are doing something that they haven't done so far. They might be taking this time of pandemic as time to enjoy and do something different music wise.

I think this is the main reason behind this different direction. They cannot promote.

  • Their aim during pandemic was to reach the maximum amount of people around the world, with a positive message. And that's what they did exactly.

For that to happen... the songs would have to be in English, as that would ensure the biggest amount of industry support and global reach. And the song would be pop, with easy, enjoyable and sing along lyrics so the most amount of people would be able to digest them and be happy.

So, apart from Be, they released three English, pop songs, amidst the dark times of pandemic. Nobody forced them, it was not thoughtless and they wanted to be represented by the positivity of these tracks.

All the members seem relaxed and just having fun, especiay while performing PTD. Jungkook said he made his own sound, different from guide vocals, unlike Butter... because that's what he wanted. And RM said that no rapping was his own decision because he wanted to just chill, dance and sing.

So yes you can dislike a song, but don't question BTS' decisions for their own careers. And stop treating them like puppets, they are doing what they want to, 100 percent.

"Overspending on my pens, that are more in number... than your fans" - Suga.
