Why was talent such a big deal in the early 3rd gen but not so much now?

That one group from JYP in early 3rd gen makes talent relevant.

It’s true that talent is not as much talked as before though I don’t completely complain about that : it was another way for I-fans to have a dick contest. And the other hand, I see more and more fans who don’t see to care about talent at all and I find that a bit baffling.

The examples in the OP are not that good though. Lisa is not the only Kpop idol who is considered as the best dancer in the industry. People still talk about Chungha, Chaeyeon, Hyeoyeon, Momo, Seulgi, YooA or even less knows idols like Seungyeon. It’s just for female idols with that.

Wendy was able to demonstrate her good vocals earlier in her career than NingNing. Happiness was her era for this reason. Aespa has less live performances than Red Velvet at the same point in their career. NingNing still received some praise and her time to shine will come.

Young songwriters like Soyeon and Bang Chan received a lot of praise for their skills and it’s well-deserved. It’s true besides that making your own songs don’t make them good automatically. It’s often a justification when a group don’t write their own music but people who say that know that it’s a real skill.

For a more serious response, I think the talent gap between idols and groups has shrunk. They are all very very talented so comparing the best dancer or the best vocalist is less interesting (i.e. less important in fanwars) than it once was.

So it's not that talent is less important now, but more that the standard for talent has risen for everyone.

Not convinced that this is true.

Aespa are being praised as great, versatile allrounders with no fixed roles due to them being so good allround, STAYC were being praised as great vocalists, NCT's vocals, dance talents and stage presences have very often been praised, practically with every one of their comebacks, and Soyeon is continuously praised as the multitalented driving force behind (G)I-dle. Chaeyeon's often praised for her superb dance skills.

As for the older groups, it's already established that Wendy's her generation's top vocalist, that idols like Seulgi, Lisa and Momo are top tier dancers, and that Mamamoo and BTS have great stage presence. So you'll see less discussion about it than years ago.

There used to be a rivalry before which is absent now. Twice vs blackpink and also red velvet inserted into the talent conversation by reveluvs.

We don't see the same akp and Internet...

It's who's the best 4th Gen *enter talent* every day to a point it's become more annoying than informational

Not all of 4th generation has debut and the groups that already debuted have been discussed. I think most people are waiting for other groups like jyp, yg, hybe to debut. People can't keep talking about Aespa vs Itzy vs Stayc every week :confused:
