Changed the title of the thread from “Why aren't American pop artists willing to do the bare minimum compared to KPop Idols?” to “Why are American pop artists willing to do the bare minimum compared to KPop Idols?”. -

I wouldn’t generalize a lot of artists. There are also some kpop artists who can only do the bare minimum according to the examples that you wrote. Also the marketing and target audience are different and thus their expectations. Where pop fans need certain things kpop fans deem other things more important. Some K-pop fans always need to drag other Western artists instead of minding their business

But would the laziness of someone like Rihanna be tolerated from a KPop label?

That Mariah comment is not it. She writes her own songs. And out of her 19 number 1 hit songs she has written 18 of them. Calling her lazy is ridiculous. She written more than most Kpop acts
By lazy I mean the fact that she doesn't even perform properly look at her New Year's Eve performance

For example;
Mainstream American pop stars are so untalented, lazy, & arrogant. Plus vulgar. A lot of the music isn't universal. and they suck, when it comes to the actual music lyrics, music composition, performance, serving the fans, etc,

Look at the likes of Mariah Carey too lazy to write her music, properly perform or sing live because she's a studio singer at best and she can't even keep her voice because she drinks too damn much.

The woman has been in the industry over 30 years and was a great performer in her prime with vocal talent 99% of idols don’t have. Who cares that 30 years later she’s not doing what she could when she was 20.
-
Eh, it's not really apples and oranges, because most kpop idols need to be passable enough at most things, whereas a western soloist has to be all the things. Dua Lipa sings the entire song, is the face and visual, and dances/performs. A basic idol just has to be cute enough, dance well enough, and sing or rap well enough for their 20 seconds in the song (if that). If they're lacking, the others in the group cover... which is all the more apparent when they go solo and you can see how many of them really can't stand on their own.
-
but in 2021 she hasn't released a full album since 2018. And a performance like Mariah's at the New Year's Eve party would never be acceptable by a Kpop company

your first post still makes no sense. Mariah Carey isn’t one of the main pop girls right now. She’s past that time. Comparing her now to idols right now is ridiculous. If you compare prime Mariah to and idol group in their prime now Mariah out performs majority . Plus you legit said she DOESNT WRITE HER MUSIC. Which is false🥴 that was my main issue with your thread. Your boat ant lies. At least use a singer who isn’t credited for 18 number 1 billboard singles

I didn't say she didn't write her music I said she's too lazy now to write a song.

Because actual musicians make music that’s interesting enough to stand on its own without all the glitz and extras like choreography
Artists like Kanye or Kendrick have more talent in their pinky toes than 99% of idols, even if they don’t dance.
As for soloists like Lizzo or Adele, their voices are strong enough to carry the entire performance even if they’re not moving. Idols are not the same.
-

Kpop companies wish they had Mariah Carey under contract.
Are you 12 or what?
-
-
because with the money if young artists has a "hit" then he/she is already good for life...
even as one hit wonder
because then after year, two or three release of album will bring milions
and they are soloists, when if you have kpop group they need to:
- pay taxes
- then split money with company
- then split money equally to all members
-
Yeah Im sure Kpop companies wish they had an artist who can barely perform on stage
-
-
-
Western artists aren't a product owned by their record labels to the same extent K-pop groups are. And long hiatuses between albums is the standard in the western industry.
-
Yeah Im sure Kpop companies wish they had an artist who can barely perform on stage
When the aforementioned artist is a 50yo legend with a successful career that spanned decades, yeah, I'm sure companies can live with that.
-
Yeah Im sure Kpop companies wish they had an artist who can barely perform on stage
If they bring da money, they can afford that.
-
some kpop fans are really pathetic, aren't they? always stirring trouble. anyways, I am going to leave these here, tell me when kpop produces this type of talents...

The number of idols who spend years trying to learn what she has in her bones.

The audacity to drag a 50 year old woman for performance. How many kpop idols will even do any performance at that age? How many will even be relevant? She outsings your kpop idols even in her 50ties.
I mean it would be really sad if idols in their 20ties performed worse than a 50 year old woman. 💀

What has Mariah done that's considered legendary?

Look at the likes of Mariah Carey too lazy to write her music, properly perform or sing live because she's a studio singer at best and she can't even keep her voice because she drinks too damn much. And then there's Rihanna, for someone who barely "writes" her music, there is no reason for her to be keeping her fans waiting this long for her new album despite promising fans in 2019 that it'd be release.
I don't think it's fair to discredit Mariah and Rihanna like that. Both have gone through so much to be where they are today. Both know exactly how they want to convey themselves, what kind of brand they want to build for themselves, and they do it quite well.
Rihanna had to put up with a lot to be where she is today, to have the image she has today. Her label originally wanted her to be someone she's not. She strongly disliked her debut album because it didn't showcase whom she was. Through persistence and with the help of the right people, she was able to express herself as an artist. Yeah, she might not write her music, but there's a lot that goes into selecting the right songs and being able to deliver these performances well.
In a sense, it's really no different from K-pop. You have those who write their own music and those who don't. Some excel at delivering performances and building a stellar stage presence. Some are known more for vocals and less for dancing or stage presence. Whether they write or not isn't a dealbreaker. Each artist is to be evaluated differently. Take it for what it is.

can play every instrument, perform live extremely well was never lazy, wrote and composed every song of his.

Dunno about the examples given. Pretty sure Mariah Carey worked her ass to get to where she is. She may not put that much effort like before, but does she need to? American artists bust their asses while climbing the ladder. Just because they don't follow a regimented Kpop training schemes doesn't mean they didn't go through hell training as well. There are cases of top artists may have their status handled to them, but that's pretty few.
I think it is more about once they hit the top, they don't need to prove and work as hard as before. They can just enjoy their position and people all around the world will pay anyway. Eventually everyone from companies and artists will do the bare minimum. It is just the bare minimum in Kpop is different. At the same time in Kpop, companies do the bare minimum for their idols while over exploiting them.
