but the fact that 3 of her Bsides + the title track is charting, is impressive 
I think a huge part of this is also that she’s covering really popular (almost classic) Korean songs so people are checking her album out for curiosity but staying because her voice and the rearrangements are really good.
A lot of people cursed SM for giving Joy a cover album, but it was a great decision for digital charts imo. Remember, a huge reason why the older generation also love IU (and her digimon status) is because of her Flower Bookmark remake albums.

When I heard that the ost she was successful in was a remake, I found SM's suggestion very logical.

Because old generations are checking the song because they know the song and they want to see how it'll sound
And new generation are checking the song because it's joy solo and she's a member of one of the biggest 3rd gen gg in korea
it was such a good decision to make it a remake before she releases original songs, that way the hype is there at least for the succcess of her first solo
