Starship = The King of Fighters/ SNK
Somehow, someway, Starship Entertainment has stayed alive.
Just like SNK, they have something that fans want but they either don't know how to deliver it the way they want to or they don't HAVE the budget to deliver it the way they want to.
Either way, their contributions to K Pop can't be ignored. The groups at Starship know what they're doing but the label doesn't LOL
RBW = Guilty Gear/ Arc System Works
It looks good. It sounds good but there's a learning curve to it. As far as Mamamoo goes, they have all the tools to be a top group if fans are willing to learn the style.
But remember! Arc System Works also put out Dragonball Fighterz and that was a game changer so who knows?
SM = Street Fighter/ Capcom
I mean, have you stopped and looked at all the acts SM has had walk through their doors?! It's a who's who of the K Pop genre just like Capcom has a who's who of Fighting games.
I would look at groups like TVXQ and Super Junior, they're like Street Fighter 2, they got the ball rolling but then you got fans that love SHINee. To me SHINee is like the Street Fighter Alpha series.
But then you got the girl groups of SM. Some people think Fighting games should be more like Street Fighter 3: Third Strike. That would be F(X). There are some people who feel F(X) is the GG standard.
Then you have NCT and you can break down NCT 127, NCT U, NCT Dream like the Vs. Series where you had Street Fighter vs X-Men, Marvel vs Capcom 1 and 2. That's NCT.
Red Velvet is Capcom vs SNK. Presentation is everything. Mechanicallly sound, raw ability, need I say more?
Taemin as a solo artist is the Darkstalkers series. He's like Morrigan: SM puts him everywhere they can but never really get behind his major releases LOL.
Girls Generation is Capcom vs SNK 2: One is the greatest GG of all time, the other is the greatest Fighting game of all time.
YG = Mortal Kombat/ Netherrealm Studios
I always say that YG Entertainment doesn't feel like a K Pop label. It's certainly run like a K Pop label but the groups it puts out are definitely outside of the norm in terms of K Pop.
Ironically enough, the only video game studio I've mentioned here NOT based in Japan is Netherrealm Studios. YG is very larger than life and in your face. A lot like Mortal Kombat. It's not your mom and dad's K Pop lol.
If Big Bang is like Mortal Kombat 2011, then Blackpink is Mortal Kombat X and 11.
JYP = Tekken/ Namco
Wonder Girls, Rain, 2AM, Miss A; They're like Tekken 1 thru 3, they laid the foundation.
Twice is Tekken 5 thru 7. They revitalized their label like Tekken 5 revitalized Namco. Tekken 7 is currently the third biggest Fighting game, go figure.
Got7 is like the first Soul Calibur. A fantastic Fighting game but only a million people played it because it was only on the Dreamcast.
Itzy is like Soul Calibur 7. A improvement over previous versions but not quite there yet. However, given what Namco learned from Tekken 7, like JYP can learn from Twice, the future is bright for Itzy.
Big Hit/ HYBE = Super Smash Bros./ Nintendo
Oh boy. I always state that BTS is beyond the realm of K Pop now. Just like the Super Smash Bros. series is beyond the Fighting game genre now. I mean, there's a reason why many people call Super Smash Bros Ultimate, Video Games: The Game LOL.
That's what BTS is. They're the Super Smash Bros Ultimate of the music business.
