video game stereotypes

I think the violence thing stereotype was just in the 00s when rockstar games like gtasa, bully and manhunt caused an insane amount of controversy... The rockstar dudes even went to court for the san andreas one.
Nowadays it's cool to be a gamer. Even the one considered the epitome of handsomeness aka Henry Cavill is one, which pretty much destroy the argument that gamers are ugly losers. The most powerful dude on youtube is one as well. Etc.

10 years ago: you play your games
Today: you watch someone else play games and don't play watched game
In the past: nerds wish girls played games

The one about watching others play videogames is the only thing that makes me feel a boomer. I still find that so stupid. The only time it's fun imo is if it's scary like Outlast and the players have their mic on so we can hear their reactions; or if you're not actually interested in playing the game and just like to watch others play for the aesthetic/story.

I think what they meant was that before Dark Souls was even a thing and started to be considered super difficult by a lot of people, all the other games before it were already pretty difficult compared to the ones nowadays.
Nowadays the amount of games that follow a script is huge compared to back in the day when we actually had to figure out everything by ourselves.
When I used to play Code Veronica, if I ever used all my ink rainbows and fucked up by either wasting bullets i shouldn't (that were actually meant for a boss) or something like that, I would always have to restart the whole game from the beginning lol. It was basically impossible to keep going if i did one innocent mistake. I did many. My brother hates that game exactly because of that but I love it exactly because the survival vibe lol it feel so real.

Dunno about the "always was" part. Certain not true around SNES or before at least as games could be very hard or super cryptic.
The marketing of DS is being hard, so I just invoked the stereotype of it being hard and people going around saying that DS was a true hardcore game (well started with Demon's Souls fanbase). Although I agree that DS isn't really that hard if you are used to this type of punishing games (like no checkpoints outside bonfires or possibility of losing your currency when dying) which lot of casuals weren't compared to past casual gamers who were used to punishing games.
Anyway we are just saying stereotypes and what I referring to gamers think games were harder in the past in comparison to today's flagship games full of handholding.

i mean i was born in 2000 and games i grew up playing were pretty much equally if not more punishing in the checkpoint department
besides, one has to consider a lot of hardness in old games came from bad level design and wonky mechanics too
thats why PvP games are just as hard as they ever were
games like quake and counter strike where everyone is on an even playing field show true skill when it comes to gaming
i agree i hate handholding which is why i abandoned the AC franchise after they lost their plot but there were a lot of bad designing that went into making old games hard too
of course the success after grinding made it feel more rewarding

Yeah. Don't take what I wrote as a truth. It was meant as stereotype. Some of them may be very close to the truth like microtransaction one, but some were just meant as generalizations what people think.
It was more a double take on gamers of the past who think their games were harder than todays due to some of flagship ones having handholding mechanics (like you said, some modern games are as hard/harder) and Dark Souls fans thinking this game was hardcore hard.

Oh that rep was there in the 90s too.
There was a whole panic over Mortal Kombat and the gore and violence of that era.

where are the hot gamers at? Is watching cdrama about gaming too much now..(they were all so hot )?
i don’t get the hype with watching people play games on youtube, and you never actually playing the game. It’s the most pointless activity ever, just play the game yourself and stop watching other people do it..

Yeah exactly. That's why I don't like sharing my gender on some games. People are like "well you're a girl so you automatically suck" or "girls don't play video games." I remember watching a video and it was a streamer who was cussing at a female player and saying "go to the kitchen and make me a sandwich!" that's not ok. And it gets really weird when male players find out that they're playing with a girl and automatically want to date them.

20 years ago : they're fat nerds living in the basement :-D
today : young kids learning violence and toxicity
Honestly, more like...
Today: Cool, trendy kids and young adults making money and gaining popularity by playing video games competitively
