Where did it go wrong for Weeekly?

'tis the life of a nugu.

I thought they changed concept and it wasn't well received.

Their management/creatives suck ass

First they tried to replicate After Schools success with basic carbon copies of it like Holiday Party. Fun but just a retread.

Then they went on a stupidly long hiatus for no reason.

Whatever happened with Jiyoon, that sounded like it was messier than we know behind the scenes.

Then they came back with an ill advised complete concept change up that even the members didn't seem to like.

They couldn't find the happy medium of staying with their core concept but evolving.

So put them on ANOTHER hiatus.

It sucks, because they had numerous Rookie of the Year awards. They had someone who could have been a major visual for her gen, Zoa. They had an incredibly charismatic "perfect idol" in Jihan, who was even hosting The Show.

They had what was needed to do very well. Maybe not a top 4th gen group alongside IVE and aespa, but at least achieve solid high mid range success.

But management just went "Gee wizz, we don't know what the fuck we need to do with this group, lets just shit out"

They were amazing. After School was like an early glimpse into 5th gen.

It's a shame they never made it big. They remind me of PRISTIN in that regard. Another group with legendary members and incredible songs that just disappeared.

I only liked Tag me and stopped caring

Trump was president back then as well, and we had just gone through lockdown, but somehow the state of the world didn't seem so bad...

I think it's the pain when dealing with a group from a smaller company. A group has to be nearly perfect when they debut outside of the big 4 or doesn't have a very popular member. I think people need to give more praise to a group like Stayc that debuted outside of the big 4 and were able to hold their own in the industry.

I think the main issue with Weeekly, they had some long breaks between releases that groups from smaller companies can't afford to have. Unsure how popular they were in Korea but when there's long breaks you need to have members active in the industry, so they're not forgotten. It's a shame when they have very talented members and one of the best vocalist

Check out Monday's solo release. It's pretty good

it was a leaked facetime sex call that spread in korea, and it was aroudn the time of all the other korean men BS,

they're not a big company group so bad management and a hiatus was fatal and After School was more a miracle than anything. Ven para was something a bit too different even though to me the girls are versatile, it didn't help

Too bad because their post hiatus comebacks deserved way better but IST didn't put any effort into promoting them.

i don't even know how that one song of theirs became a hit in the first place.

Nope. She left in June 2022. That video leaked over a year later, later 2023. She had a hair colour/style in it that she only had AFTER she left and had started her own social media, where, a few months earlier (but months after she left) she also dished a little bit about her reasons for leaving/getting pushed out.
