Skill-wise, how would you rank Aespa, Ive and Lsfm?

  • Let’s forget about charts and sales for a bit. Skill-wise, how would you rank Aespa, Ive and Lsfm.

These three are usually seen as the top active 4th-gen girl groups right now when it comes to sales, charts, and overall recognition. Yet, A lot of people argue that sales and charts aren’t the best way to determine which group is “better,” so I figured focusing on skills as comparison makes more sense.

If we set sales and charts aside, how would these groups compare purely in terms of talent, ability, and artistic value alone?

Rank them based on the following categories:

    1. Vocals (technique, stability, and live ability)

    2. Dancing (choreography, performance quality and execution)

    3. Discography (musical consistency and overall quality)

    4. Star power (members and group's presence, individuality, and impact)

    5. Live performance

    (stage presence, stability, crowd engagement)

    6. Individual member strength

(balance between standout members vs overall group)

    7. Artistic identity / musical direction

(how clear and distinctive their sound/image is)

    8. Versatility

(how well they pull off different concepts)

    9. Overall, for the best to the last in term of skills

Or if this is too much to rank, you can just skip to the question 9 of which group do you think win over the others overall across these categories?

  • 1. Vocals (technique, stability, and live ability)

    Aespa then Ive then LSRFM

    2. Dancing (choreography, performance quality and execution)

    LSRFM, Ive then Aespa

    3. Discography (musical consistency and overall quality)

Aespa and Ive are tied then LSRFM

    4. Star power (members and group's presence, individuality, and impact)

    5. Live performance

    (stage presence, stability, crowd engagement)

    LSRFM then Ive and Aespa

    6. Individual member strength

(balance between standout members vs overall group)

    Ive then Aespa then LSRFM

    7. Artistic identity / musical direction

(how clear and distinctive their sound/image is)

    Aespa then Ive then LSRFM

    8. Versatility

(how well they pull off different concepts)

They all do good with what they are given.

    9. Overall, for

the best to the last in term of skills

    Ive then Aespa then LSRFM.

  • 1. Vocals (technique, stability, and live ability)

AESPA (does good when they decide to sing live) -> IVE (sings live a lot but AESPA still dominates) -> LE SSERAFIM (sings live 70% of the time. Especially during concert but there's still backtrack which is needed due to hard choreo + some off moments).

    2. Dancing (choreography, performance quality and execution)

LE SSERAFIM -> AESPA -> IVE

    3. Discography (musical consistency and overall quality)

LE SSERAFIM -> IVE -> AESPA

Musical consistency is pretty irrelevant to me but LE SSERAFIM has higher quality bsides.

    4. Star power (members and group's presence, individuality, and impact)

    Don't care much for this.

    5. Live performance (stage presence, stability, crowd engagement)

LE SSERAFIM -> IVE -> AESPA

You will catch me sitting through a LSF performance way more than an IVE performance, but AESPA stays strictly on Spotify. I don't find their performances engaging at all.

    6. Individual member strength (balance between standout members vs overall group)

LE SSERAFIM -> AESPA -> IVE

LSF is overall really balanced. IVE is all Wonyoung this, Wonyoung that and I actually find it hard to remember the names of the other members otherwise. AESPA is in the middle. There's a gap between the members but that balance still isn't totally gone.

    7. Artistic identity / musical direction (how clear and distinctive their sound/image is)

I don't care about this either but IVE -> LE SSERAFIM -> AESPA

IVE has been very consistent, AESPA rides on aesthetics. LE SSERAFIM doesn't have a distinct sound but that's their appeal + bonus points for the members being involved in production.

    8. Versatility (how well they pull off different concepts)

LE SSERAFIM -> AESPA -> IVE

If LSF isn't first for everybody in this criteria then y'all would actually be crazy. IVE, again is pretty consistent. That shows they only feel comfortable with one concept so not much versatility there. AESPA is okay. I only put them second because they were able to pull off (sorta) Kwangya concept vs current concept. Kwangya concept is still shit, though.

    9. Overall, for the best to the last in term of skills

LE SSERAFIM -> IVE -> AESPA

LSF and IVE sings live. AESPA less than them. Even with easy choreo. Sure they serve vocals eventually but what's the diff between the majority of AESPA's lipsynced concert vs any other music bank perf? Exactly.

All LSF members are capable of being main/lead dancers in almost any other kpop group vs IVE members who are barely decent dancers apart from Gaeul + Yujin vs AESPA members that even Karina is pretty weak for the main dancer. Dare I say that Ningning (who I consider the lead dancer) could very easily surpass her if she really tried.

LSF vocals are okay. Nothing standout but nothing as horrible as people make it out to be, either. Yunjin can sing well when she isn't suppressing her voice. Chaewon is consistent. Kazuha is improving really well. Eunchae was never as bad as people made her out to be. Her tone is just annoying to most (not me). Sakura back on her growth journey. Hopefully the only way is up from here.

Ningning carries AESPA in terms of vocals and is the best of this bunch of ggs. I don't see Winter as someone possessing standout vocal skill. She can go high but I guess that's it? The same is for Karina so they are both sustained by their tone imo. Both still better than most LSF members tho. Giselle is okay. Imo, she's on the same level as Eunchae except slightly better. I do find her singing voice dry, though.

IVE is okay. Winter, Karina, and Liz are in the same boat for me. I don't see any standout skill plus I actually find Liz's voice kinda annoying when she goes high. Yujin is second to Liz in IVE and also is okay.

Overall, my vocal standards for kpop aren't very high so very rarely am I impressed by anyone's vocals. Even NMIXX doesn't impress me much. It also might have to do with the fact that I see and hear better singing on the daily but thats all my opinion.

  • 1. Vocals (technique, stability, and live ability)

    Aespa > ive > lsrf

Of course this one goes to aespa

I feel they are the only group here who really have a true vocal line

    2. Dancing (choreography, performance quality and execution)

    Lsrf > aespa > ive

This one goes to lesserafim in term of dancing they are #1

I was torn between aespa and ive but i went for aespa in #2 cuz i enjoy aespa choregraphy more and i feel like in term of choregraphy they show different sides whereas i feel ive chore are always the same vibes a bit

    3. Discography (musical consistency and overall quality)

    Aespa > lsrf > Ive

I stan aespa and lesserafim so obviously they would be #1 and #2 for me

    4. Star power (members and group's presence, individuality, and impact)

    Aespa > ive > Lsrf

Well... Aespa members have better engagement and follower on social media than more members of ive and lsrf

Also the fact that Up & and giselle collab with haon ( who's a tiny rapper in korea) got nominated show how popular they are individually

+ The fact that they were able to have a new peak 5 years in their career is a proof of the star power they hold

    5. Live performance

    (stage presence, stability, crowd engagement)

    Lsrf > aespa > ive

Lesserafim performance are always very well planned and executed

My choice for #2 is purely subjective, i engage more in an aespa performance and feel more invested in their performance than i am for ive

    6. Individual member strength

(balance between standout members vs overall group)

    Aespa > Ive > lsrf

I think aespa have the advantage of being a small group so i feel like each member in the group have a use and can show their strenght

Whereas i feel like some members in lsrf are very weak and doesn't add much to the group

And for ive, i feel like they have some real standout members like wonyoung and yunjin but then you have members like gaeul that never stand out and just feels overshadow

    7. Artistic identity / musical direction

(how clear and distinctive their sound/image is)

    Aespa > ive > lsrf

Musically or image aespa is the only group from this list that have a true "core" to the point of hearing a certain type of music or seing a certain type of aesthetic will automatically makes everybody think " this is so aespa coded"

While lsrf doesn't have any musical direction or artistic direction they just throw things at a wall and see what sticks or not

And to me ive is the textbook gg, they are more consistant than lsrf, but to me they feel a bit "generic" but not in a bad way

In a sense that starship kinda promote them in a to not give them a real standout aesthetic or sound to be sure that the majority of people can connect to them as a group

    8. Versatility

(how well they pull off different concepts)

    Lsrf > aespa > ive

Lsrf because they are always trying to surf on the trend so they never do 2 times the same things

    9. Overall, for the best to the last in term of skills

    Aespa > ive > lesserafim
