So basically This event is sponsored by brands.

This year 29 brands participate to the event including, channel, celine, prada etc....

The brands make donation to W korea for breast cancer organisation and in exchange artist have to wear their clothes and jewelry and be photography with them to promote the brand

Dispatch reveal that for fashion brands it's 30 million of won donations

And jewelry brand have to pay 5 million of won donations

It's not reveal if it's overall or by articles

They took the example of actresse Park Bo-young cuz she didn't wear the sock that she receive cuz they were too big for her and then was refuse the entry to the even

Dispatch reveal that this year alone the event reach 1.1 billion of won recolted

So they wonder why W korea have only donate 1 billion of won in 20 years

And criticize W korea for not being transparent about the donations made to them

I have the feeling that the drama surrounding the guests and the evening was just the fuse that will light the fire. This kind of embezzlement story is always very dark.

Koreans are currently saying that W korea didn't make any statement yet

Cuz for the moment it's the actor and idol who were at the event who are taking most of the heat

And not them directly, yet, so they are trying to hide behind them

I feel like it is gonna become a much bigger story

Cuz how do you donate only 1B in 20 years when you're able to do this much in just one night

  • I think it depends if global outlets pick up on it, but it does some Koreans are rightfully calling them out.

I'm still shocked they only raised $800k USD over 20 years. An event like Met Gala raises like $30million/year, so not being able to generate anywhere close to that in a 20 year period looks very shady. There needs to be an investigation done in what's actually happening for this event and they have to pray international outlets doesn't pick up on this

  • I understand that American celebrities are wealthier than Korean celebrities in general, but 1 billion won in 20 years is outrageous. I watched a YouTube video about this drama, and not many people that attended this year are looking good coming out of it even by my western standards.

I think we all understand why. The question for me is: Who is involved and how far back does it go?

it’s going to become really nasty in the next days

W korea said on their own website that they gave 1.1 B won

But the ministry of health and welfare reveal that since 2007 they only gave 300 millions won

I understand know why W korea play the dead and doesn’t make a comment

They have more secrets in their closet

  • 1. You inflate the cost of producing the fund raiser, sometimes by over paying your own companies for the event supplies / organization.

    2. You pay the people in charge of the organization very high salaries.

So at the end, there is very little money to donate.

This is the worst part for me. 40k I read. 40k that is so outrageous. I've no issues with the drinking, partying, TikTok challenges and all that if the artists had posted a single post to raise awareness. 99% of them did not. Look W Korea deserve all the hate here but the celebs deserve some criticism here. Also in 2025 some PR firm has to be telling these celebs going to a mega rich event like that to have it all posted over socials isn't the best look when we're all struggling.

This one of the few moments I'm with knets on this one.

  • Meh, all the top kpop stars fly to Paris and Milan to promote high fashion and the luxury life, their fans love all those pictures with the expensive clothes and fashion models.

I doubt most fans care about the rich party aspect. at least not those that love it when their faves get all those influencer deals.

  • unfortunately this type of shallow events posing as "charity" are way too common. I'm honestly surprised that no one ever raised this issue before. did they only reveal the amount of donations done to date this year?

I also assumed the celebs themselves all donated to the cause through the ticket purchase or that you could only attend if you donated.

the whole thing is so shady but sadly not surprising. entertainment industry and corporate world is so nasty and higher ups are all psychos and narcissistic.

  • So Korean charities are just like American ones.

People are the same doesn't matter where they live.

My biggest problem (because I'm not surprised about this at all) is that people hating on the celebs for no reason. Not just Idols, btw. Even Park Eunbin got some because she left early, and now we understand why. Minnie (I think) also got some MAYBE fair criticism for posting those pictures, but it's not like they stole the money.

W Korea is a huge brand so I'm 100% sure they won't have any problem. People will move on after a week or so.

I mean its not for no reason though is it. They went to a charity event to raise awareness for breast cancer and none of them have done that and they've done is post dress pics. They do deserve some criticism for that. Obviously W Korea deserve all the hate and are at fault for this but the celebs don't get a free pass.

Yep basically. This is why I generally only trust charities that are 100% non profits with no ties to for profit companies.
