Aint no way people consider ITZY 3rd gen

  • I s‍ee that y‍ou quite like the phrase "shot across the bow" when referring to "Dalla Dalla":

Prepare for more shots across the bow references with Magnetic signaling the beginning of the end for 4th gen. :smirks2:

We just saw Aespa semi flop with Dirty Work and Ive's latest single hasnt made much noise yet.

With NJ gone, LSRFM barely making top 10, Idle completely flopped, Aespa only making top 6, and now Ive not getting the cannon shot roof hits even after Rebel Heart hype... 4th gen is teetering.

But it's not 5th gen that is fixing to take over. They're even worse digitally, outside of Magnetic, they've made zero impact.

It's a weird mixture of Allday, Katseye and now this Demon Hunter craze that has captured public attention.

  • viviz debuted in 2022 but no one would group them with 4th gen lol. Redebuts are not that rare, and it’s not hard to acknowledge that some idols first debuted in a different landscape from where they permanently ended up

Similarly, one wouldn’t classify taeyeon and g.na as solo idols from different eras/generations just bc taeyeon made her official debut much later than g.na, which technically made the former the hoobae in the strictest sense of the word lol

Viviz is different Viviz literally ended their many year contract and reform with the same members they are essentially the same group with half the members so obviously we won't see them as 4th gen since it's basically the same group

IZ*ONE is from a survival show and many members split to form different groups

    They are not the same

they’re definitely not the exact same situation, but that wasn’t my point either. idols “redebut” in many ways, be it a solo debut, or a rebrand with their previous members, or a new group with new members. The point is it’s really not this perplexing notion for an idol to end up redebuting in a different gen from their first ever debut, and it doesn’t make sense to ignore their different debut timelines, as if only 1 amongst them was legit. All these gen divides are pretty arbitrary anyways. I don’t even care about the izone situation and how people classify them specifically; i wanted to address sth else entirely.

It's website tho. And also I remember back in the day Knetz discussed this on Forums.

The article you link to itself acknowledges there is a hardly a consensus on generation divides and that sorting them based on debut date rather then the date they really hitted off isn't a perfect system.

This also looks back on generations of decades past with the benefit of hindsight, knowing how they are remembered. They are obviously unable to do this for 4th gen, as it was made in 2020. There's no reason to take this image as facts written in stone, to be followed like holy gospel as you see on this site whenever it is brought up.

but it very much suits the narrative that as time flies generations become bit shorter

and due to the fact that in modern days big KPOP companies debut groups more often we clearly already are in 5th gen

  • My way of thinking is a bit different. We can consider a generation to last 7 years in kpop, because it's the standard contract period. But we should'nt call actual generation the fifth because there are some artists which debuted in the 1970s or 80s who are still doing kpop stuff.

For example Insomi debuted in a kpop group called Golden Girls produced by JYP few years ago. They had to dance on Miss A title and even got their own song. Even if it was a project group, it wasn't that different than I-Zone, Kep1er or Izna. But she is a veteran singer, and she's still active. Another example is Kim Wan-sun who did a duo with Red Velvet few months ago. She was the first trainee in korea and was famous in the 80s. And she can still dance singing live in a real microphone.

They were active way before the so called 1st gen, and paved the way.

I considerer the groups active now to be part of the current gen.
7 years ago were the group in activity during the previous gen.
So some group are part of different gens, and their success doesn't matter at all.
