I think it’s most likely common because I remember reading Loona members were working part-time as they went through their legal issues . Even somebody as popular as Jungyeon was working part-time during her hiatus. Yunjin was about to go to school and then she got a call from source/hybe. She was very close to reject offer but most likely accepted due to it not being another survival show. I don’t think she wanted to deal with that again .

I assume trainees that want to stay in the industry most likely work part-time or go to school until they get a call. I assume they know by the age of 20 if they have a realistic shot in debuting with another company
