Why does Blackpink feel less like Kpop compared to other ggs?

there is nothing wrong with that thought since blackpink were/are making more waves globally and thus they sought to capture that market and thus their music tends to be more westernised (even more so than "standard" kpop groups)

Cuz they don't do anything

It might be due to them not doing traditional kpop things.For example do they even do challenges? I think them having an exclusive feel is why they feel less like kpop compared to other groups. I remember Lisa had to be edited out of vlogs and pictures due to YG restricting that from them. I think them not interacting with other groups created that feel

The lack of music

They rarely promote, individuality, short discography and barely fanservice

It's because they are legends, unlike nugus like GD

They have more magazine shoots photographed than songs recorded.

I don't think they feel less like a Kpop group.

They feel different from the standard "cute" group, but still see them as Kpop. Maybe because I saw them grow from early on, before they became more well-known outside Asia.

They lack that i insufferable cutesy childish nonsense they force on the majority of girl groups and even some boygroups.

I see what you're saying but they are still very much k-pop. I used to feel the same way sort of but as I learned more about k-pop and other groups, I came to realize that BP is indeed just another k-pop gg. But I still think they are special and unique amongst gg's, at least the members are.

Also it just seems to be the case with YG gg's in general. Less interactions overall with other kpop idols sometimes make it feel like they are in their own little world. I hate this because I love seeing idol interactions.

Maybe, because they are so popular? Isn't it same in anime. If you watch Pokemon or Dragonball Z, you don't feel as much weeaboo than watching something like Steins Gate or Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni

I think they are very easily distinguishable. Especially Lisa and Jennie have something that makes them just stand out and memorable.

Even people who only stan boy groups or only cute girl groups or know Kpop only very casually are likely to know who they are.

Yea agreed. Pretty distinct visuals and vocals, plus only 4 members makes them easy to remember and recognize. I actually really like the analogy number-one just used too because I also had the same experience with Anime. Those who haven't seen many anime might consider DBZ to be "less anime" because it's so huge and stands alone, but if you've seen 100s of anime like me, you realize it's just another in a long line of battle shonens. But it still stands out amongst those.

But in their case: what made them so popular?

I think having their own style from the beginning helped a lot.

Because they dont follow the traditional multiple comeback per year like most kpop groups. They have this image of exclusivity by releasing limited music, do not engage much with other kpop groups, limited appearance on korean music shows etc

Due to the above, their "comeback" really feels like a big thing in kpop. Just like how the western artists take years to release new album. It creates anticipation, hype and buzz. In kpop, comebacks happen every 3-6 months and it feels like fast food version of music
