The sound was already tried and tested in kpop and did well critically. NewJeans is just a successor to that sound and new kpop fans think that is a novelty because all other groups are making either lowest common denominator western pop or messy attempts of hyperpop. And there's the rest who are copying NewJeans. Copy of a copy. Kpop in all its glory.

nj is hit or miss for me but when they connect, they really hit it out of the ballpark

I agree with you about IVE. The only songs from them that I don't really like that much are the ad songs I Want and Will. Everything else has been amazing so far.

Even my main ult groups have really good songs but some misses, but IVE is growing to have a really fantastic discography and I don't know how they do it.

whether a song is good or bad is subjective

for example I ADORED ditto and it was probably my fav song of 2023/2024...but not a fan of any of the four debut songs...
