Things that you don't like in K-POP?

  • name things like: genre of music, styling, concept, etc.

    I will start

I don't like too many english lyrics in song, I would prefer it to be about 70% Korean and max 30 english, but wouldn't mind if song be even full Korean release

oh and I heavily dislike interviews with 'pre-selected questions reviewed by manager' many times it just kills whole interview and all seems staged

Changed the title of the thread from “Thinks that you don't like in K-POP?” to “Things that you don't like in K-POP?”.
  • When the CD is lying loose in a weird place in the kpop album. (or I'm not sure how to explain it)

Like when the CD was being inside a poster of one album instead of a safe place.

I feel scared that the CD might end up ruined. For goodness's sake, when I buy an album (or receive one as a gift or something), I also want to listen to the music.

  • Idm English or other languages in kpop songs but it’s when the English doesn’t make sense or is very cringe

I dislike the competitiveness in kpop! (Not just charts) but everyone wants their favs to be the best singers and dancers and rappers and have the best visuals :!: any less and idols are labelled flop or below average etc that’s a lot of pressure to put on people!

We are just as bad as kpop companies!

    • Girlgroup stans who make fun of boygroups
    • Company stans who make fun of artists that are from another company
    • Solo-stans who make fun of other members of their fave group
    • People who make fun of artists that never won on random music show
    • People who make fun of artists that only won on smaller award shows claiming these awards would be irrelevant
    • People who think their fave peaked in Japan and that JPop would be unpopular just cause their fave might hit a top10 entry in at least 1 day of the charts
    • People with unrealistic double standarts that they implement onto their faves
    • Those who say someone can't sing or dance well. Girl show us how you are better in singing or dancing than the idol you just called bad or else you are just sounding jealous for something you might not even know how to do yourself well enough
    • Companies who don't pay their idols and force them to pay a unrealistic high dept for just working with their company. Other jobs would pay you for working for them, but KPop is like "nah, let's make the artist suffer in depts they never can pay off"
    • Idols who are so overworked that they constantly have members on hiatus (examples: Win from MCND for example was in the hospital for over 6 months till a few days back cause of how damn sick he got. A nurse revealed asome years back that in the hospital she works at she quit often sees celebrities who are inured from their work and stated the most frequently visits are by SEVENTEEN who have members come almost weekly. She also revealed that she was doing a bandage on Hoshi's foot once and told him to rest so he won't insure himself more, but he apparently told her that he can't and would go back to dance practice after leaving,...)
    • Companies who make their artists live in the worst conditions (Examples: NU'EST who was a boygroup under Pledis shared a loft-style apartment with no bedrooms as 5 members and 3 of them slept on the floor in front of the kitchen counter doe to not having much space. When SNSD used to live in a shared apartment, SM only gave them 1 bedroom with 3 double beds lined up next to eachother in which 3 girls had to sleep in 1 bed together. Secret, a disbanded girlgroup who was under TS Entertainment had no warm water, no heat or air conditioning and lack in privacy since their windows had been facing a crowded street and they had no blinds or curtains on the windows and couldn't afford to buy their own blinds and curtains,...)
    • Companies who sue idols in all types of way. (Example: if you leave your company, some CEOs really think its needed to sue you for leaving to a point where you end up bankrupt and in extrem dept, some companies might also sue ex. idols so they get banned from apearing on TV. Companies who are greedy like now closed down TS Entertainment are also worse as seen in 2024 which is 3 years after closing down, where they tried to sue a former artist to get all the money back they had to pay him after the artist sued TS first when he wasn't payed and just demanded his pay. The former CEO of TS thought he could get his own dept solved by suing an artist who got 300K $ years later, which of course didn't worked since the artist said it's his own money now, the company lost in a case before and he needs the money to suport his wife and child,... some comapnies are just stupid AF)
    • Idiotic Knetz who spread hate about certain things idols do and than try to bully them out of their groups (and sadly sometimes win with their asshole behavier)
    • Knetz who cry about idols dating, drinking, smoking, ... while they most likly sit at home married, with kids, drinking alcohol... but oh well, random non-public people can do all this but idols need to be desirable singles with a flawless image and can't have a privater life or what?
    • Idols who say they got forced into extrem diets or plastic surgery without wanting it themselfs
    • "Paved the way" ... are your faves a construction worker?
    • The general downward trend for average ages and members ages in new girl groups.
    • The impact of NewJeans style music on late 4th gen and 5th gen. I don't like NewJeans music but its fine that they have it and it has its fans, there should be something for everyone. It's just not my kind of music and the fact that so many groups are trying to ape it is killing interest.
    • The Debt system. Idols should be earning a living wage at MINIMUM from the beginning. Not just given "free" rent and a meal allowance.
    • The whole f**king obsession with charts and numbers and ranking and treating a bunch of cute girls and guys singing about silly stuff into a competitive sport and declaring everything a flop because they didn't get Top 10 and sell 100000000000000000000000000000000000 albums. Even worse, fans that make chart and numbers obsession their primary way of enjoying kpop. Pull ya farkin head in.
    • David
    • Fans gatekeeping. Eg while at the XG concert, heard some girl fans snarking and bitching that males have dared attend the concert. Nothing about kpop says its a girls only hobby.
    • Shipping culture and the really gross "For the Girls" culture that seems like a harmless joke but people seem to take super seriously, ie what happened with Karina, where psychopaths were super angry at Karina for having a BF because they really convinced themselves that Karina was "for the girls"
  • - Modern integration with the U.S. and broader mainstream Western music market.

    - The loss of Korea as dominant cultural zeitgeist in kpop.

    - Abandonment of ballads as a staple of girl group music.

    - the Tiktokification of modern kpop songwriting and abandonment of Melodic Traditional pop song writing and bridges.

    - The move away from defined Positions in groups.

    - The push to abandon ideals of decorum, manner systems, and more traditional codes of conduct associated with the historic idol systems. Essentially a move to embrace a more loose Western style "anything goes" decadence and hyper individualist artist structure.

  • - Fans not giving groups from smaller companies a chance

    - Debt system is predatory and idols should be given livable wages.

    - Toxic fandoms ruin kpop culture

    - Bullying idols and groups because of the company they work for

    - Songs that are under 3 minutes due to chasing streaming algorithm and TikTok

    - Ageism against older idols

    - Do away with generations because it seems only kpop focuses on that. I don't really see other music scenes boxing themselves by generations.

    - Unsure if it's different in Korea, but soloist need more love. I feel they're often ignored, but maybe it's because I am an international fan

    - Companies mishandling groups/soloist. This usually leads to them shelving them

    - Not allowing a group to have a farewell song or concert. It feels awkward that Dreamcatcher might not have a farewell song.

    - Overpriced albums. Not saying any names, but I felt cheated when I bought an album and it was double the price of a regular album. The package for it felt cheap and it wasn't anything special to spend double the price for

    - Scalpers for popular concerts

  • - Abandonment of ballads as a staple of girl group music.

    - The push to abandon ideals of decorum, manner systems, and more traditional codes of conduct associated with the historic idol systems. Essentially a move to embrace a more loose Western style "anything goes" decadence and hyper individualist artist structure.

Funnily enough, I see these two as positives.

I HATE ballads with a passion, especially from groups whose main concepts aren't ballad friendly
