INTERVIEW:
How was the filming?
I had a chance to shoot wearing Tommy Jeans for the first time in a while. I am a Tommy Jeans model. It was nice to meet the brand representatives after a long time and I was happy to hear good stories.
If it's a good story, you say it's pretty?
He said that the brand grew thanks to me. I was grateful to hear that. It motivates me. I always hope that the brand I model for will receive a lot of love.
You're working very hard and seriously on two things: being a musician and a model.
Exactly. It doesn't feel like I'm doing something else while doing something else. I'm doing both seriously. If I do only one thing, I get bored quickly. That's why I always want to do something new.
The title songs of the new album <IVE EMPATHY> are 'ATTITUDE' and 'REBEL HEART'. There must have been a process of deciding which song to promote first, right?
We all listened to the songs together and talked about them. We decided that 'REBEL HEART' had a grand atmosphere and was suitable as our first promotional song.
What do you think about the opinion that 'ATTITUDE' is more Ive-like?
I liked 'ATTITUDE' better. I participated in writing the lyrics. But it's okay to do 'REBEL HEART' first. Because we all thought about the Ive-like things together.
The album title is 'IVE EMPATHY'. Is there a moment that you want to get empathy from?
There are always moments like that. For example, when something is really funny, but the other person doesn't laugh... Why isn't he laughing? I especially want to get sympathy from my mom. My mom is my closest person, and I have most of my honest conversations with her. When I talk to my mom, I expect that she'll definitely sympathize. Of course, she always does.
Is Mom still amazed that her daughter has become a 'superstar on Earth'?
Yes! Sometimes you ask, “What kind of luck is this?” But my mom says she’s not saying that because Jang Won-young is a celebrity, but that she’s just thankful to have a daughter like me.
Everyone who likes Jang Won-young will agree with that statement. What moment during your career do you consider to be the most dazzling?
Last year's Lollapalooza performance. It was amazing. Ive is a group that started in Korea, but people from many countries responded enthusiastically.
There's a line in the lyrics of 'ATTITUDE' that says, "If fate plays a trick on you, you have to play along, what else can you do?" What would you do if fate really played a trick on you?
Since fate cannot be avoided, I believe that if you accept it and overcome it, good things will come. In the end, you have to live. If there is something you have to change in the process, then of course you have to do so.
In the lyrics of 'REBEL HEART', there is a part that says, "You're a little lacking in some areas, but there's something that's overflowing in you." What does Jang Won-young lack and what does she have overflowing in?
If there's anything I lack, it's that I get bored quickly. Of course, I don't think of it as a disadvantage, because it makes things go faster. On the other hand, what I have in abundance is the people who like me, and the love and affection I give.
As Jang Won-young living in the 'Jang Won-young era', what are the good and bad points?
I've believed since I was young that 'Jang Won-young is Jang Won-young.' I'm really happy that it turned out as I imagined. I have no regrets.

Do you feel responsible for being in the spotlight? Many people are curious about Jang Won-young.
When I hear it like that, it may sound heavy, but in reality, I don't work while thinking that much. I just do what I like, and people see that. So it doesn't feel burdensome.
Have you ever failed?
No. You're still young.
Is there a gap between the Jang Won-young that fans expect and the Jang Won-young that she wants to reveal?
It's not that different. Our 'dives' will like me the way I want to show them. I have that kind of faith.
What does 'work' mean to a female musician who is already successful and has a bright future ahead of her?
Work makes rest sweet. Sometimes I take a vacation and rest, and I feel really happy.
What makes Jang Won-young keep going without getting tired?
Change. Doing something new is a powerful motivator for me.
