Personally, I would be embarassed if my faves were getting bench pressed by someone who isnt a "real soloist" but clearly shame has never been in David's vocabulary
Benched? Girl, are you serious? No group can match IU's level. Your girls are just rookies. That's why I don't count them as real soloists, it's not that deep. BP girlies wouldn't have massive numbers like these without Blackpink. I can only see Rose and maybe Jennie getting a real chance to debut as a real soloist if they don't debut with BP. Lisa would be a dance teacher and Jisoo is an actress.
What I'm saying applies to EVERY group member, not just BP. It's not that hard to maintain your popularity while you're active in your group as well. Taeyeon did the same thing. Pretty much every group member who became a soloist started their solo journey when their groups were still active.
I didn't say these Idols were real soloists when they started: Taeyeon, Chungha, Kim Sejeong, Nayeon, Wendy, Seulgi, Irene, Gidle and yes, even Mamamoo members! I could mention a lot of others. So you can't say I'm biased.
To be fair, Mamamoo is like the only group that is different, because even the industry said, they're like 4 soloists in 1 group. You can't say that about any other group.

I don't undermine anyone, I'm just saying they're not a real soloist, YET! Also, if they're not a member of a group, those songs wouldn't be a massive hit, that's fore sure. Pretty much every solo Title Track of BP members is a hit, because they're the BP members. It's simple math.

1. Success because they are from an active and popular group - that I agree with you, that is why I call them "SolUnits and not Soloists" - 1 member Subunit of still active group leveraging group fandom.
The groups need to be in the past for some decent time, before they can be considered Soloists - Taeyeon is the best example of that
2. Collabs - that it was Bruno who made APT largely successful, that I don't agree with. Collabs only amplify if the headliner has considerable traction already. So the primary credit goes to the headliner and not the collaborator.

I said, they have massive streaming stats because of the collabs, and that's 100% true. Just compare their 100% solo songs with collabs and you'll see.
People say Rose's new album is the first Kpop album that achieved 1B stream overall, but more than 700M comes from APT. If that doesn't prove my point, I don't know what will.
Not to mention Jennie's collabs. TW collab is a HIT with the #2 most streamed male artist on Spoti (Bruno is the #1). Zico collab, also a hit, with another mainstream guy, mostly in Asia. And there's "Slow Motion", a flop. So, where is her influence? Why BLINKS don't stream that song? Her first song "SOLO" was a hit, because it was her first solo song when BP was at it's peak. "You and Me" is also a hit, but nothing compared to "SOLO" let alone "OOTG". But other than that, does she have any massively popular song? Oh I forgot, "Mantra", also a hit, but it's a hit like "Y&M".
Jisoo, I don't think we can talk about her yet, she has 2 songs.
Like I said, Lisa is the only one who has massive numbers without collabs. To be honest, I don't get why she's the most popular member, but anyway.

Then we circle back to why the same argument does not apply to IU in the context of Spotify?
Eight, is her most streamed song on Spotify and is a collab with Suga.
If we are talking Korea or Korean digitals, yes it would be laughable to suggest IU needs a collabs, but outside Korea, particularly the West, the Collab is what makes Eight her most streamed song.

Because IU has more than 100 other songs, not just collabs. And if you see her stats, you can see out of 3B stream 2B comes from her real solo songs.
-
Yet, the one on the top with most streams is the Collab.
Even then 2nd most is her feature with Suga - People Pt.2, which is not at all a hit, by anybody's measure.
Yet the sheer numbers of ARMY drive the stats.
At best your argument can be that BP members do not have enough discography to confirm that they have the traction without collabs, while IU has a long discography.

Mantra is still charting on Spotify global charts and it charted 2 weeks on billboard 100 and her highest pick in Apple Music global chart.
slowmotion is best forming songs of Matt champion and it did better than his other track of the album.
spot is best performing song of Zico internationally bcoz of Jennie ( which Zico himself said)
-
omg the fanboys are truly mad
-
You keep ignoring my point. You can only see 3 collabs in her TOP10 most streamed songs. 2 with Suga and one with G-Dragon.
In Suga's "People Pt2." she only has 4 lines, so it's a FEATURE, and "Eight" is her own song produced by Suga and had only 5 lines. That song count as a LEAD. You can see the stats for features and lead songs. It's a massive difference.
QuoteThat's actually my point!
