Singer IU’s agency announced on the 11th that it has filed lawsuits against more than 180 individuals for acts including threats, defamation, spreading false information, and accusations of plagiarism directed at IU.
EDAM Entertainment stated, “We have selectively proceeded with lawsuits for serious cases that meet the criteria for criminal offenses,” adding, “Currently, there are a total of about 180 defendants, and additional lawsuits are ongoing.”
The agency further explained, “So far, there have been six cases resulting in fines, three cases with conditional suspended indictments requiring educational courses, and one case with conditional probation. In one instance, involving sexual harassment and death threats, a 3 million KRW fine was recommended by the prosecution, but the defendant has appealed, leading to a formal trial.”
Additionally, they noted, “Among those identified for spreading baseless plagiarism accusations, one was identified as a former middle school classmate of IU, with whom we are currently dealing.”
They emphasized that for cases such as the rumor about IU being a spy, “a swift lawsuit was filed, leading to a police investigation and subsequent prosecution referral. We are actively responding with individual lawsuits beyond regular quarterly filings, aiming for swift and decisive action. We will uphold a strict policy of no leniency and proceed with criminal complaints to ensure severe penalties.”
