An important reminder

  • I don't want anyone making negative generalizations of any fandom in this thread. There will be no tolerance for that.

X, Reddit, TikTok, or whatever it is... These platforms are built on algorithms that feed you similar content to what you've been engaging with. When you see more and more of such content, your worldview will be influenced adversely, affecting how you perceive a fandom or community.

I just wanted to highlight something valuable lidora shared today:

I appreciate lidora for saying this because it's how I feel.

A lot of you don't care to contribute unless there's a semblance of disagreement for you to partake in. You guys come in here with a "disagree first, ask questions later" mentality as if "being right" and proving someone else "wrong" feeds your ego and gives you a wild rush of dopamine. It's absolutely antisocial and at times narcissistic and sociopathic.

  • This is a very important reminder and wonderfully put. I can understand it is frustrating to see a fandom insulting you're group, I've seen some very heinous stuff about my faves too but social media gives us plenty of options to filter stuff like that. You can block, filter words and adjust your experience. I don't see any hate against my faves anymore on twitter because I don't follow accounts that post drama and also I lessen my usage of twitter overall.

It used to fill me with rage and anger but I got tired of feeling that way. Its no point in getting riled up at people that are determined to hate my faves and won't change. I decided to put my energy into other things rather than focusing on the hate. I enjoy my faves, I enjoy the real world and the people in my life and I spend time doing things that matter to me. It has done amazing things for my mental health.

I've been saying that shit since day1 lol

hell I even made a thread about it but no one listens to LSM anymore

  • People are so obsessed with getting a "gotcha" moment or being the one in the right that they forget that fandom culture can be very, very crazy and out of control at times and taking everything as YOU personally see it isn't going to paint the bigger picture. That on top of algorithms feeding you what you engage with the most (and quite frankly, some people want to see because they want to argue) can create a nasty mindset that only spreads to others and generates more nasty mindsets.

Remember that at the end of the day, positivity is key and realizing that most of the crap going on in the KPop industry or across social media is unfortunately largely out of our control. Take care of yourself! Try not to stress yourself out so much!

  • K-pop attracts many deeply troubled people with insecurities and other issues.

These ARMYS you’re referring to are not real ARMYS. They don’t embody the ideologies and values that BTS represents. Therefore, they shouldn’t be categorized with real ARMY. They don’t even deserve to experience belonging in what’s supposed to be a positive fandom.

I’d like to encourage everyone to redirect this energy towards fighting the real forces of evil instead. Obsession over charts to the point of weaponizing favorites’ achievements is one of them. At that point, these people aren’t even K-pop fans anymore.

I can't quote the other thread but I disagree with you on this my friend

I don't think a person can just ignore or claim a certain problematic group of people aren't part of the group just because they are problematic

For example there are certain religious nutjobs outthere but they are still part of said religion

there are crazy soccer fans in the world and yet they are still soccer fans

one cannot just state on well those are real armys or real fans. Fans come in all shapes and sizes and when fans of a certain group or hobby or activity or sport becomes problematic it is up to the rest of us and especially more so if we are also fans to call them out on said behaviour.

Dumbledore said it best - "There are all kinds of courage," said Dumbledore, smiling. "It takes a great deal of bravery to stand up to our enemies, but just as much to stand up to our friends."
