Is there any evidence that Korean charting can be bought?

  • Dispatch released another Fifty Fifty bomb, which you can see here: https://www.dispatch.co.kr/2305244

I want to draw attention to this quotation (machine translation):

"Ahn Sungil : TikTok? If you go to my desk, I have all the business cards of TikTok headquarters. I've met all of TikTok. The sped-up version is something we made and offered.

Ahn Sung-il : If you target Korea... It's called buying a sash. You can raise the ranking chart if you have money. If you get 80,000 domestically, you can put it in the top 100. It's not hard to make 8.

Ahn Sung-il maintained his (self) pride and (Jeon Hong-joon's) degradation."

Basically, if you pay someone or a group, you can artificially inflate your unique listeners on the Korean charts. Which charts, we don't know. The person making the claim is not super trustworthy, but I am interested to know what other evidence there is, if any, to support that you can buy placement on Korean charts? If so, which charts can be bought?

Does anyone know of any rumors or reported evidence? It wouldn't be surprising if it can be bought, but that's just assuming.

  • Interesting.

Also not about Melon but I remember when there was this article about Riize faking their Hanteo sales, Hanteo quickly hide the yearly sales for last year. It’s still hidden today…

  • I mean you can gather friends

    give them money

create few fake emails, accounts with sim cards

    and stream songs

the point is how is it different for paying youtube ads to have your group MV displayed or doing some payola on spotify to make song being in top rotation, that's same shit

  • ads = visibility = more influx

    it's just how it works

talent and music is almost a non-factor when compared to capital but still important of course

in the past there wasn't visibility in terms of youtube and all that

yet music labels were still doing business with radio stations to promote this or that song more,

you know song from artist A was played 2 times a day

but song from artist B was played 10 times a day

That’s the difference between having enough money for promotion and visibility (the reason why artists signs with labels instead of being independent) and just faking/creating fake customers/listeners. I mean after promo you are still free to not listen to an artist.

Yeah but that refers to YouTube views. Everyone knows the different ways to game those.
