Hybe Really Needs to Stop Making Documentaries

  • The Manon being lazy bit, they already tried to spin during the Youtube series and it got her a lot of hate. A lot of people were against her (but she also had a dedicated fanbase from the start!) until Samara left, because people were so fixated on "the perfect balance" of ethnicities in the final group. This drags these same people back up.

If it weren’t for Samara fucking up - Manon would have never seen the daylight. There’s a reason she’s labeled as just a pretty face, girly’s stiff as hell when she dance :pepe-joy:

  • Anticipating Illit doc to have our holy trinity :meme-gretchen-heart:

But even though this was dumb move I'm so happy everybody could see what these girls are and how they treat a fellow member AND the fellow member turns out to be the only black girl in the group.. sure this can be a "misunderstanding", but it's a turn off... Hope this is a lesson learned for them. Be a better human being, mean girls.

Everything about Illit is pretty much documented already no? well except for the youngseo part which i doubt will ever see the light.

  • Manon feels like sullyoon in nmixx. so obviously mannerless basic b*tches would feel threatened by her face card and her popularity.

But even tho she's really really pretty, i don’t find her very charismatic or even that intersting or talened. I mean it's like there is a shadow on her face or smth. she seems very very timid almost larmoyant.

Idk man. She's almost as pretty as Tyla but Tyla got confidence, charm and a beautiful voice to back her up. Manon only got her face.

And even if she had a pretty voice, i would see her more as a chill rnb ballad soloist rather than a pop star or smth.

  • i've not seen the documentary so I won't be able to form a full fledged opinions but it's not a great idea like to which extent bad press is still press can go? Maybe the girls have a better relationship now or maybe not but it does not change that now a lot of fans will have this bad perception of some of them.

The fans are already turning against one another, sophia has a lotta filipinos supporting her and you know how vocal they can be, although if you’re on tiktok it’s basically just manon stans bitching. Idk anything about this group either but i luv it xD. Any drama at HYBE’s peril is a sight for sore eyes

as much as I despise Hybe, I can't bring myself to enjoy the drama. It isn't as much Hybe's peril (although we see how airing the docu is a bad strategy) as much as KATSEYE's members'.

The thing is Manon fans have a reason to bitch but at the same time flooding the comments with "only for Manon" (despite members having nothing to do with it) is not really helping and on the other hand people just from that are starting to despise Manon and her fans and bringing out her "laziness" so it's becoming a messy circle. Again I haven't seen the full documentary so I can't vouch for each side but what I've see from the comments is typical kpop stan and more largely fandom mess.

  • That's true but imo I think it'd be better to make a villain of the system (the coaches/producers, the company, the music industry itself etc) instead of the individual players.

It still generates a lot of passion and engagement from the fans and doesn't lead to infighting like you have now.

from the clips I've seen (and I watched the first four eps now cause I wanted to see the full story) I don't think anyone is really the villain here though, and the doc even points to the competitive stressful situation of unexpectedly being thrown into a survival show as the main culprit for escalating tensions.

I understand where Manon was coming from, she's a rich European adult (20+ years old), I'd also be very taken aback by being expected to follow all these strict schedules and rules all of a sudden, especially when she had never had a burning desire to be a popstar. If you don't have that inherent motivation, I imagine it must grate so much. Plus she had no knowledge of the kpop industry or idol system, it must have been quite a shocking change. Then she lived with her aunt instead of the house for the most part so they didn't get to know her as much as each other. Meanwhile a lot of the other girls desperately wanted this and to see someone who wasn't putting in much effort get so much attention while girls who'd worked hard for a year were sent home without really much of a chance to show anything must have been super difficult.

obviously mature fans can see all that and that the setup of the survival show was mostly to blame, but fandoms aren't known for their maturity lol. From what I saw the girls talked it out and moved on from the drama so idk why people need to take sides now, it's a long ago conflict at this point.

Wait how do you know? Was she portrayed this way in the doc?

  • If anything, I'm surprised that more companies don't release these types of documentaries. They give content to fans to follow, they can create moments of virality to give the group attention and exposure, and they can let you see what the companies what you to see about the artists and the process (a way of controlling the narrative). It's probably relatively cheap too.

I have a friend in Switzerland who is a veeery loose aquaintance (not friend, more like friend's cousin's friend) but he said her family is wealthy. That was literally all he knew though lol. I'm not saying millionaire rich but just well off by Swiss standards. You can see her aunt's house in the doc and it looks quite nice.

  • This show should have been air during the dream academy airing it now

    Is just stupid

The girls said that they never see the show and will watch it together

Imagine of awkward it'll be for manon, lara etc .. to see the kind of things they used to say about each other and the bad mood it'll be in the group

And the fans Will now always try to overanalyze every interaction between them which will create more fanwar

Or most of people will just not see the girls relation as genuine

This show was a gunshot in their own feet

True but a ton of companies make reality and variety shows instead

they talk about it on the show so they already know this happened tho. Like in ep 7 they all sit down together and discuss it.

Manon clearly knows on the show where the criticism of her is coming from and they're pretty open about it, none of this should come as a surprise.
