Is winning awards bigger for idols than music shows?

  • Is winning a music show more emotional for idols than grabbing a MAMA, MMA, KDA, GDA or other lesser fashion-brand awards? Should it be the opposite since awards are larger in recognition for idols than a music show?

  • depends what timing of career

and did they win anything in the past

when you have successful group which won lots of awards but then suddenly didn't win anything, got long hiatus, then if they win a music show after year and a half or even more, you will see them tearing up and crying

but overall like I said there should be levels, and rookie groups shouldn't ever get group of the year or album of the year awards, it makes them spoiled brats in a way that uh oh we won everything etc.

rookies should just be rookies, best ones should be super proud and happy to win MMA or MAMA rookie of the year award

  • For Rookies, Music Shows are probably one of the most important, even nowadays.

But senior artist don't take Music Shows seriously anymore, it's basically just a joke now. Just like MAMA or MMA, btw.

There's like 2 or 3 Award that's prestigious: Golden Disc, KMA (Korean Music Awards), and maybe Circle Chart Music Awards.

Everything else is basically about fan voting and popularity.

  • In 2007, there were about 56 possible music show wins in one year.

    In 2010, 150.

    In 2016, 231.

    In 2023, 255.

    In 2024 to date, 161.

It is easier now more than ever to get a music show win. It's still difficult because many awards can be swayed by the size of the fanbase, but it's not 2007 or 2010 anymore either. Getting a first win for a non-big 4 (who's guaranteed to get a win really) is a huge deal of course. I would always remember my first win, especially if it took my a long time to get one (eg Dreamcatcher).

But I would trade away all my wins for a Gold Disc daesang for Album of the Year for example. I'd probably negotiate keeping one music show win for the daesang, but I would trade even that one.

Only MAMA, Golden Disk and Melon (after 2017) are considered to be major

The rest are bullshit awards , given like candies by the organizers who want more famous names to be in their events

There's like 2 or 3 Award that's prestigious: Golden Disc, KMA (Korean Music Awards), and maybe Circle Chart Music Awards.

At least both sides can agree with GDA lol

  • I think any award is considered more prestigious than a music show win. The latter can also accumulate quickly for a popular group, making them a less valuable commodity. That said, I'm sure it's still meaningful for a group that has either just debuted or gone a long time without a win. But I think even those groups would rather win an actual award given at an award ceremony, even the less prestigious ones.

  • For the award shows like Goldendisk and MAMA, only the Daesangs are relevant. The rest of the awards are forgettable.

Music show wins are important for the idols that have not or have no chance for the Daesangs.

  • Music shows gets more clout. Awards are a joke these days. NewJeans won 2 daesangs at MAMA last year, the first GG in 12 years to win AOTY - not only did they not attend, they didn’t even bother to make an acceptance video. Award shows aren’t what they’re used to be in the 2010s

That might say more about MAMA than award shows as a whole to be honest :nj-33: No way is a win on Show Champion better than any daesang even from MAMA for example.

  • Both awards and music show wins are irrelevant to the top acts. They matter a lot only to mid-tier and newbies, because it is exposure.

Awards/Shows were critical ways for common folk to be introduced to what was considered as best by the 'experts', critics & insiders.

But that has been democratized by social media. Nobody is waiting or depending on expert judgement to enjoy music and pick their faves. And most experts have been revealed as shallow people who can be swayed by money/popularity anyway.

    So meh.

But in a weird reversal of roles, Awards/Show Wins have been affirmations for fans to brag about, that the world is finally realizing what they already knew - how great their faves are.

So it is to fandoms, that awards/show wins are more important.

With kpop going global and Broadcase media declining - between the two, Awards are more important than Music shows, which are more SK specific.
