What is the longest amount of time you went without listening to K-Pop, and what did you do?

  • I think my story is a little different, at first I was recently into BlockB BTS, BigBang, EXO and B.A.P and then ATEEZ had my full attention up until 2020 when I realized 2 of my twitter *friends were turning into Saesangs and kept giving me information and photos, that's when I began to change how I look into kpop and fandoms I think.

At that point after expressing my concerns to her and my worries I would decide to take time away from kpop for a total of 2 years, with a main focus on keeping up with ATEEZ, BTS and CIX being my big groups as B.A.P & BlockB went to military.

I think compared to then I'm pretty healthy and enjoy kpop a lot differently, but there is some times I take a 30 day break or so, but I'm not on reddit, IG or twitter anymore so I don't completely focus on it. I enjoy other music genres and spend my time rock climbing and working out a lot of the time outside of work.

  • same, when did you start noticing NJ? For me it was around September 2022 - I saw a vid that went viral of Danielle talking about potato pancakes - and since we have the same accents I was instantly hooked 😅

  • Ever since I got into it, I don't think there was ever a year when I didn't listen to K-pop to some extent. I did, however, go through a phase of Western pop from, say, 2015 to 2017. This was when Western pop was going through its EDM wave; you'd hear a lot of pop artists collaborating with EDM artists.

Examples of what I would listen to during that time:

  • :skull:

  • Wow so you're an OG! You still a MHJ loyalist?

But yeah NJ's debut was something else, I remember listening to Hype Boy for the first time - it was so fresh and yet so nostalgic, instantly knew it was gonna be a bop. They had such an incredible rookie start - still mad the way MAMA treated them at the awards X(

But yeah like you and me NJ made a lot of people fall in love with kpop again, that what makes them so special. I honestly never thought anything could match the euphoria I got from BIGBANG - these past couple years has been such a joy for me and tokkis alike, here's to the next 5 :pepe-toast:

Wow. Somehow I'm surprised you also feel the same way I do about BIGBANG. Their music got me into K-pop. I feel like one's attachment to a brand of music is natural. It just happens and there's no explanation to it other than pure appreciation for how it makes us feel.

I do think the MHJ loyalism is amusing, but that's just me. ^^

Kids these days will never know what it’s like to experience prime BIGBANG. I also wholeheartedly believe to this day no BG has come close to rivalling their discography, they were such pioneers along with SNSD & 2NE1 in globalising kpop. Boils my blood how Armys continue to diminish them for the sake of glorifying BTS smh.

I can see why from an outside POV, it’s very easy to come to conclusion with MHJ

Newer K-pop fans tend to be dismissive of the greatness that happened in earlier generations. It's recency bias at its finest. I'm not even saying 2nd gen is better than the more recent generations. I think all generations are pretty great in their own way.

To me, though, there was a type of magic to that time that can't be replaced. Just my experience.

Don't get me wrong. I don't have a strong opinion against MHJ. I just find the pro-MHJ coalition amusing. ^^
