Double single is such a blessing for 4th gen girl groups

  • I mean can you imagine if Supernova and Armageddon were released apart as different comebacks? Now people would be calling Aespa flops. But since they promoted two songs simultaneously and Supernova is doing amazing nobody minds Armageddon not doing well.

In what world is armageddon doing bad, is a bigger hit on spotify than how sweet and is starting to outstream supernova, in no way this song is flopping.

Armageddon is literally charting in top 5/6 consistently and climbing up :!: your definition for flopping must be studied :watt:

I didn't say Aespa is flopping, I said "people would say" and I don't think of kpop fans so highly mind you. Twice More&More was called flop and it entered top3 on every charts and you're telling me about 5-6.

  • Armageddon is doing fine. It’s doing a bit worse than Drama/Spicy on Kcharts but Armageddon has better Spotify numbers.

But when big groups do pre-releases with double TTs, the pre-release does better most of the time. Or it could just be that SuperNova is the better song too.

  • Oh My Girl did it too

altough Dolphin MV was low budget but still

  • It's not the same. It seems now people trust more the music of the current top groups, they're willing to check the songs way more. Some of the songs don't even need that big of a push, with promotions in music shows or some performance video a song can become popular, 3rd gen groups used to promote a b side in all their comebacks but they never became succesful apart from a couple of exceptions. In NJ's case they don't even need that, their outro of 30 secs charted better than the 99% of the b sides of the 3rd gen groups. I'm not sure the reason behind this, I feel NJ's debut album was kinda the turning point for people to trust idol's music more, but it's all speculation.

On the other hand 3rd gen groups took advantage of other situation. People didn't check their whole discography that much, but most of the singles would go straight to the top of the charts because of the chart system we had back then and get a lot of exposure. Back then they were doing repacks to take advantage of it and that's how we saw Twice having 4 comebacks 2 years in a row, or RV and MMM having 3 comebacks several years, lining up many succesful consecutive comebacks (or in the case one flopped it wasn't that tragic because you knew other was coming soon), but each comeback was "less succesful" than the current comebacks we have now with several songs charting.

Each group lives in their own environment, the music market evolves, they just use the tools they have in each moment in the best possible way.

He? I don’t think it’s true the only hits b-sides from 3rd gen GG are Forever Young and Dolphin, FY was an instant hit with no mv while Dolphin was a slow burner.

Twice never truly promoted their b-sides until ICSM era and it was rushed.

Nowadays are dropping multiply mv, promote everywhere, release double single or pre-releases it was rare during 3rd gen.

Get up was the turning point because they were promoting all their singles before, so it was impacted their first mini even with get up all the songs expect the interlude have a MV. It has never been a lack of interest but a lack of promotion this is why I’ve is behind every GG in term of b-sides streams.

I Miss You and Rainy Season by Mamamoo were also hits.

Also cap. IVE promoted 3 title tracks at the end of last year, and only one is even still in the top 100 and just barely.

Well you mentioned the 2 songs I was thinking about as the exceptions, there aren't more in the whole generation apart from some decent charting MMM songs.

Not sure if you remember correctly but to promote b sides was really common, if we talk about Twice they promoted I'm gonna be a star, Jelly jelly, 1 to 10, Touchdown... They all have music show promotions, search it. As a buddy I remember perfectly Gone with the wind and Hear the wind sing being performed and being mad af that they weren't titles, and this was what most groups did.

Of course, the promotion wasn't as big as groups do now, but that's not because they didn't want to promote it, it's because they were seeing it was not working, all these b sides were always freefalling apart from 2 songs in a whole generation so they just gave it a small try and left them. Now the situation is completely different, some promos can already show songs with potential, for example even I mentioned in the digital thread how Smart was probably going to do well before they released the MV or promoted the song that much, with a couple of music show performance the song was already rising. Same situation with other songs, but the fact that they choose to promote the songs more now is a consecuence, not a cause.

  • I'm going to ruin this thread if you people keep erasing the success of Mamamoo B Sides. Stop it.

They didn't perform just "decently"; they were literally the best charting B-Sides of any girl group up until Forever Young dropped in 2018.

Decently compared with the main singles of the comebacks of course, amazing if we compare with the rest of b sides. It was really meritory for MMM to be able to chart songs like that when no one else was doing it, but it's true that the bar was quite low regarding success of b sides back then (also true that this might mean what MMM could do was even more meritory)

I'd say MMM could do something similar of what 4th gen groups are doing now, but during the 3rd gen when no one else was doing it.
