Seven out of nine Kep1er members reportedly decide to extend their project group contracts

  • According to an exclusive media outlet report on May 16 KST, project group Kep1er will continue its activities as a 7-member group.

Of the group's nine members (Choi Yujin, Xiaoting, Mashiro, Kim Chaehyun, Kim Dayeon, Hikaru, Huening Bahiyyih, Seo Youngeun, Kang Yeseo), seven members have reportedly decided to extend their project group contracts.

Members Kang Yeseo and Mashiro will be returning to their agency, 143 Entertainment, upon the expiration of their current contracts, to join girl group LIMELIGHT.

Kep1er, formed from the Mnet girl group survival program 'Girls Planet 999', debuted in January of 2022 with a contract period of 2 years and 6 months. The group's original contract will expire in July of 2024. After July, Kep1er will resume promotions as 7-members.

Meanwhile, Kep1er will release their 1st full album 'Kep1going On' next month on June 3 KST.

  • I do wonder how long the extension is. Also like I said in another thread I don't see a point of this group staying together but I also see why they would remain together for sometime.

the "standard" kpop contract extension period is three years to my knowledge obviously kep1er's situation might be different

  • i'm very confused as why Bahiyyih re-signed it. I may not listen to gg's but every time i would watch music shows she had very little everything, the camera barely showed her, and an ad lib here or there isn't much. I really hope she pushed to be in the spotlight or have more lines as she resigned.

It could also be a thing of "well i'll take what i can get as long as i'm part of something" as going back to her country may not possibly guarantee her a solo or anything. I can't help but feel bad for her.

  • Nice!

This is the best that would have been expected.

  • lol the two least popular members.

They will be missed. I wonder why XT and Bahi extended their contracts though. No one recruited them?

Yujin, Chae, the main vocal, Daeyon, and Hikaru have nothing to lose, so it makes complete sense why they resigned. 🤙🏼

I stopped caring for Kepler after We Fresh, such a whatever song, it was a mediocre discography after that. This is an opportunity for strong rebranding.

I hope Mashiro and Yeseo can help their new nugu group. I’ll for sure be checking them out.

  • Limelight sold 35K on their debut, so they are above nugu.

  • Honestly, I think the only ones who probably would have a semi successful career after leaving would have been Xiaoting and Hikaru.

Honestly, if I were Yeseo and Mashiro, I might be a little salty.

Kep1er definitely fell off after Queendom, but they are still selling okay and are literally selling arenas and stadiums in Japan. LimeLight is selling a tenth of what Kep1er sells right now, and their touring options are probably limited.

Kep1er did not meet their original expectations but they are not totally unknown either. Staying with them right now is a steady and sure pay check, and it is a stronger brand then leaving and joining another nugu or below mid-tier GG.

Wait a minute though...P101 Japan was pretty big. ME:I and IS:SUE (made up of girls who didn't make the final group) are pretty big right now.

Depending on how popular those P101 members are, they might rack up in Japan.

    ME:I had their own show.

    IS:SUE has not debuted yet.

Yes, and Nagomi and Serina were on that show too? So, if they were popular on that show, they will already have some Japanese attention and fans.

And IS:SUE hasn't debuted yet and are still pretty popular (even though they didn't make it into ME:I). I see J-netz talk about them a lot and their KCON tiktoks are popping off.

  • It's expected. Bahiyyih's fanbase is full of kids and Moa, who wouldn't fully support her even if she were out of Kep1er. They're just there because they love to be saviors for a mistreated idol and enjoy victimizing themselves using the idol.

Xiaoting didn't have a huge opportunity in China. Her fanbase is not that big and keeps getting smaller. Most importantly, she doesn't have an agency, so it's more risky for her. She probably stayed because no one offered her a contract, and you need at least an agency with connections to get work and do well there.

It was already expected that Yeseo and Mashiro would not renew. Mashiro is popular in Japan, and Yeseo has a decent fanbase in China, just behind Xiaoting and Chaehyun. They will be great additions to Limelight. Limelight's last album sales were 43k, and they're steadily rising.

The others were expected to renew too. Honestly, it's clear that this group is not doing that well, and their company didn't really value them, so they just let them continue with Kep1er. The possibility of them doing well in a new group is low, which is quite sad.
