What Happened To All The Poor Idols

Kpop now is more popular globally and rich kids want that international celebrity experience

the new generation lack the drive and dedication...they all have a defeatist mentality..."woe is me"..."life is unfair"..."I can't wait to get out of Joseon Hell"...

It's been a trend, and we hardly going to see poor idols debuting because it's expensive to have a trainee life in this day and age.

They debut in small companies.

It is expensive to be a trainee, you need economic support from your parents/sponsors.

That is why there are no poor foreign idols.

Look at all the people excited by the new TBL group of influencers + a chaebol… and now that rich people know they don’t even have to send their kids to school anymore for them to make money, it’s game over for poor kids.

It's not just you, but I would say there isn't any "poor" Idols anymore. I also think it's not a bad thing if an Idol came from a wealthy family, BUT if they're not talented, that's a problem. Most people will think they are only in a group because they're rich. I honestly don't care about their background, if they proved, they earned their place in this industry.

I mean, you have a point, but I wouldn't say, everyone is like that, but thanks to social media a lot of teens are dumb as f-ck, and they think they don't have to work hard, they deserve everything from the start. Especially if they're good-looking. Kids nowadays born with smart-phones, they don't know how the real world looks like.

Also, in the music industry, especially in Kpop, if you're not cute or sexy you have less chance to become successful, even if you're talented. The 21st century is basically the century of the ignorance and laziness.

That's a bit harsh, even for me. Sure, Blackpink members came from rich families, but they aren't the first. It's not their fault they were born to be rich and the industry care more about the good-looking, and rich people.

If an Idol is coming from a rich family, it's much cheaper for the companies.

Entertainment jobs have always been looked down upon by the rich, but theres been tiers to it (basically actors->artists->mcs->idols)

With the success of kpop its status is slowly changing i guess.

And while theres been a few rich or better off idols, theres never actually been someone from an actual real chaebol family, and i still find it hard to believe that first to enter the business will be someone that has direct ties to the most powerful of them all.

I thought we know the most about Jisoo's family. I mean, even her bro is rich, no? I read somewhere that her family is really wealthy, but nowadays, who knows what's true or not.

No doubt, but highly unlikely any of the negative makes it to the media/news articles, they will think more than once before they publish anything negative about someone connected like that. Her family tree is basically a bingo card of the most powerful persons in the country.

Jisoo's dad obviously has a high position in an entertainment company. Even before her debut, idols like Kim Heechul said he had a close relationship with her dad...he also attended her brother's wedding.
