The double standards between IVE and Le Sserafim

  • Numbers are boring to me.

I'm more interested in the societal impact these groups have, which is why I give you this observation:

Almost every guy outside Korea who cares about K-pop loves Chaewon and almost everyone outside Korea who cares about K-pop loves IVE's music.

It's mad interesting to see how popular both of these groups are, and I see perfectly why people love them.

  • Even if I were to steelman the argument, to me the double standard, if any, isn't imposed by int'l fans, but domestic ones in Korea.

Though both are English songs, Perfect Night released in October is still in top 5 while All Night dropped off Melon 100 with the quickness.

This despite the respectable efforts of Starship, securing a collab with Saweetie and filming in LA:

Youtube views, while including int'l viewership as well, also can't hide the lack of domestic support

My own takeaway - being domestically popular is a double edged sword. They seem to be more particular with their expectations once set. A certain style/concept, once solidified, becomes harder to break free from - see Baddie, All Night.

On a positive note, while many groups are struggling to find their sound, IVE just has to go back to their winning formula. My hunch is that Starship is seeing this and IVE will go back to the rich elegant concept for their next comeback. Which should be music to the ears of fans domestic and int'l alike, no?

  • I was expecting LSRFM shade but am relieved to see none lol.

I think everyone realizes that LSRFM isnt even a two year old group yet and not even Kpop stans (except ones trying to pick a fight with Fearnots) are expecting this group to somehow carry an extremely "local" concert festival like Coachella. They're not close to being headliners, arent they listed at the very end of the 2nd or 3rd line? Cant remember exactly. I think the same would apply to Ive, nobody except those trying to pick a fight with Dives would reasonably blame a Kpop group like Ive for bad ticket sales of Coachella.

It would be a lot different if LSRFM (or Ive) were headlining like BP, the expectations would be through the roof then.
