Let's be real, idols sign up for this in the hope that they will hit big. It's just like an internship or some other underpaid entry level role.

Almost everywhere in every workplace, when you first start, you're told what to do within work hours. It's not that much different, outside of the hours, contract, and type of work. Instead of having to input data and file stuff, they train and diet.

Once you get popular, then you get your leverage and you have more power to negotiate your contract.

We don't see every thing that happens in an idol's life. To say they have no control over most things in their lives is a massive overstatement IMO.

Idols can also leave their contract. They just have to pay the fee to break it, which also happens in real life.

Slavery is where you OWN a human. That's a whole other thing.

No, it's not slavery. Idols still have rights and they chose to sign with the company, no one chooses to become a slave

They can leave anytime, although they may risk breaching contract

They aren't forced/tricked/stolen into the role

While their working conditions aren't the best, calling Kpop slavery is a massive overreach that minimizes the injustice of actual slavery. Especially when Kpop presents a path to genuine wealth for many of these people.

Tbh, idk if I would say it is slavery idols willingly sign contracts, but imo there can be mistreatment of power that many companies get away with.

If u have bad relationship with a company it’s going to be much more difficult to negotiate . It’s like what can be done there when companies will probably have leverage over u because they provide everything to u most of the time and the idols signed contract.

So I feel like most idols stay out of obligation and never talk against a company if they are being mistreated.

Like Chungha situation, she was being mistreated and left, they took her socials, her songs, her dogs insta 😭😭
