This rule is always misunderstood by Kpop fans. You can continue to earn income while you are in the military. For example, businessmen's companies continue to make money while they are away, business/shop owners continue to earn income while they are away, homeowners continue to receive rental income, etc. What is forbidden is to make any business deals while in the military, or to record songs for idols while they are in the military and earn money from it. So, you can earn income from everything you recorded before you joined the military. This is generally avoided but not required.
