Do you no longer need to win inkigayo to attend SBS gayo or did that rule never exist?

i've never heard of this rule before

It was never a thing

Artists who performed without winning in their respective years:

2015: UP10TION, 2PM, BAP, Ailee...

2016: Many, AOA, Vixx, Pentagon... there were so many I won't even bother checking

2017: Got7

2018: Monsta X, NCT, G-Idle

2019: Astro, Monsta X, TxT, NCT

2020: Jessi, Got7, Nuest, Aespa, Enhypen and many many more

You get the idea...

I've heard about It, but I think It's a myth. Looking back their previous invitations, a lot of acts never won on Inkigayo.

KBS Gayo used to be reserved for the biggest groups, but it changed. It's more accessible now

Remember in 2017 when they literally invited 8 groups (EXO, TWICE, BTS, GFRIEND, MAMAMOO, Red Velvet, SEVENTEEN, Wanna One)

In 2018 they decided to go for ensemble performances. One for SM, one for JYP. They also made a couple of especial performances with many idols of different groups singing together

Besides this, I only remember EXO and BTS having big performances

They were selective with their lineups

Maybe elitist, but It's one of my favorite Gayos I've watched since I started to follow K-pop.

EXO literally took Elyxion Tour to KBS Gayo's stage

The SM and JYP specials in 2018 were cool

I watched that whole Gayo too and loved it. Red Velvet did a whole theatrical section which was from their Red Room concert that year with props and outift changes. And the EXO medley with those classy outfits sitting at a table. It was so cool

u dont need to attend inkigayo to win or even promote in music shows

the only show that need that its m countdown

edit: I got the question wrong, I dont think its true, I remember skz going when they didnt win

it probably depend on the company letting or paying to go (bc u gotta pay for all the necesities: costume, food, makeup etc etc)

I was a bit disappointed with the SM special it seemed a bit rushed and NCT heavy at the time, and a wasted opportunity for Taeyong to perform Be Natural with RV, he was right there.

The JYPE one was superior.
