A perennial question - whether BTS individual members or BlackPink individual members would have a higher income

  • Until 2009, when JYJ and ex-Super Junior Han Geng won lawsuits against SM, idol income was not massive.

Estimated highest incomes among Idol members

2009-2011 - GDragon of Big Bang

    2012 - Psy

2013-2016 - DBSK members (it is hard to discern who earned more)

2017 - IU, a non KPopper. She was very lucky - both the military services of GD and DBSK hit in 2017, which made her the highest earner without any foreign income.

    2018 - 2020 - JHope.

For whatever reason, JHope was always considered to be the BTS member who earned the most when they did little individual activities. I am not going to ask why,

    2021 - IU, a company owner

BTS had just one foreign concert, BP had a hiatus with just individual activities without concerts, while it is known that IU took $15 million in 2021 from the financial statement of her company, which she owned back then and only had her to pay to, not including her copyright income, real estate appreciation, or expenses she ran through entities owned by her related parties (it is likely that since she was the owner she ran most of the expenses through entities owned by people friendly to her).

    2022 - JHope

Only JHope and RM did solo activities I believe and JHope did a bit better.

Now, BlackPink had its biggest year of all .

The individual BTS member who had a biggest concert was Yoongi, whose total concert income only was about $55 million. His take would be perhaps 20% of it, $11 mil, plus other income he derived from elsewhere. It would be safe to assume that his total income in 2023 would be $20-25 mil. JK has not done a concert yet and since his full album would come out in Nov his tour income won't be accounted for till 2024.

I personally think individual BP members would have made north of $30m easily this year, with Lisa making the most. She easily snubbed YG's 40m offer.

BTS' income is split 7 ways while BP's is split 4 ways. A very big difference.

  • And which data you used? I believe non of them ever reveal their income. All of it was just full of speculation lol. And jyp is right up there lol if you count IU in. He is obviously richer than IU too and will always make more money than her. It's such a stupid topic to begin with and giving obsessed fans behaviour.

  • Wow, I don't really follow numbers but:

They really be going all out As If It's Their Last since last October.

JYP is no longer an idol anymore. he releases a song here and there but no one really cares. I think he stopped being an idol in 2009 when his last hit came out

And IU's data, being the most available figure, became the benchmark. Others' income are now speculated from her figures since her figures are the most complete figures of an idol's expense structure since her number is not mingled with others'.

  • I think it would be BTS. They have released so many more songs and have credits on them. Their tours are bigger and they sell more albums. And it’s not like as if they don’t have endorsements. Plus BTS had stake in their pre IPO company. As someone also had such a stake let me tell you they made bank.

Even if BP marginally have better earnings in endorsement deals there’s no way anyone can think that’s even remotely enough to close the gap with BTS unless you’re highly delusional.

  • This sounds like one of your fan fictions. Too many delusions incorrect assumptions with no real basis/source.

No, no one knows who's the richest member in BTS because that's a whole different ball game if we account their other business ventures outside of being an artists/celebrities. But obviously, with a recent tour, Yoongi made more money from their solo activities than the other members. And no, it's not 55M.

And to put a comment on your assumptions, it's not a big difference at ALL, because BTS can generate the same amount of revenue as BP this year. Despite BTS having 0 group activities and only relying to their back catalogue and brand power excluding the income some members made this year from their solo activities, whilst BP had to put on a whole show for their world tour all year and doing sumn on the side individually.

It's not the SAME league AT ALL.

A BTS world tour with a regular cb can generate them 1.2B USD in a single calendar year at the very minimum, whilst that's most likely what only had BP made since their debut.

BTS even out-revenued YG entertainment almost 3x last year as per financial reports. And that's with direct sources. So, no with your bullshit reasoning of 4 VS 7 members 😂 It's BTS.

  • this year yoongi takes the cake....

Tour revenue.. tour merch sales.. 1.3m+ album sales.. credits as producers.. song writers.. etc... revenue from streaming platform like spotify... endorsements in velentino, nba, nba capsule merch ,solo samsung gig... multiple magazine covers..

solo photo book plus some more merch..

profits from best selling bts book... 10th annivesary stamps, gold coins ... disney documentary, solo and as group... kdrama youth coming soon... did i miss anything??

Unless jk does a tour , nobody can top yoongi!

If hit is the benchmark of anyone careers, 99% percent this music industry are supposed to retired too. Not that hard to accept that he is richer and more successful than IU, the one that got rejected by his company.

Anyway, that's such a stupid answer.

  • I think BTS, statistically men earn more. Not to mention BTS will definitely have a much better contract than the BP members, they built their company, the shares they have in HYBE is prove, big entertainment companies are not usually this generous and likelihood this will not happen again in SK. Foreign members are also paid less so Lisa will likely take home less than the other girls. I just amazed that Suga managed to bank 1/4 of what the BP concerts pulled in this year given he did less…..so he’s definitely making bank
