Until 2009, when JYJ and ex-Super Junior Han Geng won lawsuits against SM, idol income was not massive.
Estimated highest incomes among Idol members
2009-2011 - GDragon of Big Bang
2012 - Psy
2013-2016 - DBSK members (it is hard to discern who earned more)
2017 - IU, a non KPopper. She was very lucky - both the military services of GD and DBSK hit in 2017, which made her the highest earner without any foreign income.
2018 - 2020 - JHope.
For whatever reason, JHope was always considered to be the BTS member who earned the most when they did little individual activities. I am not going to ask why,
2021 - IU, a company owner
BTS had just one foreign concert, BP had a hiatus with just individual activities without concerts, while it is known that IU took $15 million in 2021 from the financial statement of her company, which she owned back then and only had her to pay to, not including her copyright income, real estate appreciation, or expenses she ran through entities owned by her related parties (it is likely that since she was the owner she ran most of the expenses through entities owned by people friendly to her).
2022 - JHope
Only JHope and RM did solo activities I believe and JHope did a bit better.
Now, BlackPink had its biggest year of all .
The individual BTS member who had a biggest concert was Yoongi, whose total concert income only was about $55 million. His take would be perhaps 20% of it, $11 mil, plus other income he derived from elsewhere. It would be safe to assume that his total income in 2023 would be $20-25 mil. JK has not done a concert yet and since his full album would come out in Nov his tour income won't be accounted for till 2024.
I personally think individual BP members would have made north of $30m easily this year, with Lisa making the most. She easily snubbed YG's 40m offer.
BTS' income is split 7 ways while BP's is split 4 ways. A very big difference.
