It's stupid to compare eng singles to Korean singles

  • It's pretty simple:

kpop songs in korean=only kpop fans consume it .

kpop songs in english=maybe people outside of the kpop bubble will also listen to it or at least more likely they will get more listners from the international general public.

So if a group charts internationally with korean songs it's probably just mean they have a lot of fans (kpop fans), not that they have any huge success among the general public. Sure we get the random Gangnam Style but that was more a funny gimmick for most people.

That's...what I mean hence why NJ is also considered a phenomena alongside BTS/BP

  • seems a bit harsh mate lol

so you're saying that the difference is what a "top" group releases vs what other groups release?

since the conditional requirement is a top group since given that a top group releases eng music > top group releasing non-eng music

it just doesn't work (or not as well???) for non-top groups

It's just facts, SM groups are unfortunately cursed with that company reputation

It worked for fifty fifty so it's not impossible

    hmm...

the exception that proves the rule? obviously nothing is impossible but 5050 blowing up like that is a rarity in kpop

you debut 100 groups and release 1000 thousand songs and sure one of them will be 5050 and cupid

we know that as a fact since even 5050 and their company or producer or whatever didn't know they were going to blow up as big as they did

  • hmm...

Also the song only blew up after they released the eng ver

  • Wrong, PV & SD are very k-pop coded lol

It does matter cause no western radio will play whatever twice last released while for the feels they might if the song was promoted to the radios

There's also a reason the biggest K-pop hits on tiktok are all eng like money & Cupid & dynamite

Nahhhh a full English song won’t help Blackpink this is the maximum popularity they can attain.

None of their “full English songs” went viral like for example Cupid did. So it’s not the “english” it’s the fact that that’s popularity they’re capable of.

  • Why would Blackpink do english songs, their songs are basically English anyway.

You're out here like their singing in full korean with word play only understood by Koreans or something, but in reality they drop a few syllables of Korean between English lines about what labels their wearing.

It's no different to what the latest batch of Latin singers do, nor acts like Pitbull etc back in the day where they'd throw a bit of their own language in what is otherwise a majority English song.

Did someone rank Cupid or something above a BP song and that got you mad?
