    1. Wow BEAST, Highlight is amazing

    2. Will TXT be there this year? I’m curious

    3. It’s surprising that Seventeen isn’t there

    4. Wow, there are less 3rd generation groups than I thought… But BEAST in 2nd generation and Highlight in 3rd generation is amazing

    5. Highlight looks so natural in the 3rd generation

    6. Highlight is 3rd generation?

    7. These are the groups that come to mind when you think of the male idols of that era

    8. Seventeen isn’t there?

    9. Why isn’t Day6 there???

    10. Are you curious about who will be the first 4th generation male idol?

    11. I think TXT will be the first 4th generation boy group

  • For both NCT Dream and 17 I think this was the first time they ever entered the daily top 10 on melon. It’s a good sign for BGs I hope.

Anyway one thing I want to say I think downloads started counting less and less over the years. If some of those 2nd BGs were evaluated in a manner similar to 3rd/4th gen I don’t think they’d be charting.

I don’t think interest in BGs are drastically changed in Korea, it’s still a very fandom driven thing. Just how charts value performance has totally shifted to being more streams based sometime post 2014

  • That is unfortunate but people mentioning TXT and NCT Dream being on this list are very short sided. They won't make the list when the charts are still going through a girl group invasion and there's still a potential for two most popular kpop idols, Jungkook and Taehyung, to push them even further down. And there's also a possibility that BlackPink or their popular members might promote more now that BTS is out the way.

For SVT is a long overdue. They will start their enlistment phase next year and before the end of 2025 half of the group will be on hiatus. It will give them only 2 or 3 more comebacks making use of their current popularity, but better than nothing I guess

Your point about 2nd gen being valued different from 3rd/4th is wrong. Those BGs could sell millions of downloads. This would never be possible without strong casual listeners support, 2nd gen BGs digital chart was by no means fandom driven and the public was brutal with then in a sense they could have a hit now and bomb hard the next comeback, similar to how iKon and Winner uses to chart during the 3rd gen

Indeed digital charting becoming a fandom thing only started with EXO in 2016. Before that zombie streaming was really not a thing and there was no records on k fandoms having multiple accounts across different to platforms to propel their faves charting. Before EXO the only group with enough fanbase to maybe manipulate the charts were peak TVXQ circa 2007-2008, but it was much harder for fandoms to organize themselves online to flood the charts, remember social media was not a thing

There were some legitimate digimons I’m sure but in a download era it’s hard to tell apart fandom driven from streaming and I stand by that.
