Hanni (NewJeans) is boycotted in Vietnam

  • On the night of February 5, a netizen discover that Hanni's family still supports the Republic of Vietnam (South Vietnam) - the old government that was merged to North Vietnam to form the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (recent Vietnam).

It's a common belief in Vietnam that those who support the Republic of Vietnam are anti-communism, reactionary toward current government.

This causes an angry wave in Vietnam, and some Vietnamese are calling for a boycott wave to stop supporting this female idol. However, some Vietnamese fans still claim that her family's political life is irrelevant to her, and they says that they still support her anyway.

The political scandal of Hanni (NewJeans) are now the hot topic in Vietnam. News related to her are also deleted in many electronic newspaper supervised by government.

  • Communism always produces these crazy patriots. Different political views and y become traitor. :skull: Besides, i never heard she mentioned to politics, right? Why do they attack her?

  • In my opinion, people can stop stanning for whatever reason they want. I just want to know how severe the hate for her currently in Vietnam? Fact as of present is that Hanni has not voiced her political stance in this matter as of right now. They can assume she can be influenced by her family however they want, but as of right now, fact is fact, they have the right to unstan, but to hate or bully Hanni online telling about them more than Hanni. Showing "patriotism/nationalism" by hating an 18 years old who had not saying anything about this matter is nut.

Also, if any Vietnamese kpop fan hating on her while stanning kpop is kind of ironic considering SK involvement in Vietnam War and if you want to dig deeper, there might be idols' grandparents involving in Vietnam War as well.

  • As if it would affect them anyway lol
This will do nothing since New jeans aren't actively promoting in VN or anything. Hanni doesn't even have a VN passport or nationality lol

I feel like this outrage is caused by people with hidden agenda towards the group or kpop in general.
If Vietnam lost a talented representative in Kpop like Hanni, it's their own fault.

I hope next time New Jeans achieve something big, they won't be jumping up and down claiming VN pride or things like that lmao.

  • The most ironic thing is that NewJeans made a message to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the first diplomatic relationship between the Republic of Korea and the Socialist Republic of Vietnam :

  • Girl was born and raised in Australia and then spent the last few years in Korea. I doubt she knows/cares about the Vietnamese political climate.

  • wait isn't being anti communist a good thing :huuh:

You should learn more about VN war to understand the context.

After WWII, France colonized VN for the 2nd time (militarily funded by US). VN defeated France in the North and aimed for reunification with the South (controlled by a French puppet government). The US intervened in control of the South (with the government of the Republic of VN - RVN) and then invaded directly with 2.7 million troops, 6 million tons of bombs, and 20 million gallons of Agent Orange.

Therefore, for most VNese, people who support the RVN are considered traitors.

The RVN-based community (mainly in the US and Australia) is also hostile to the current VNese government and has always called for foreign military or political intervention in VN's issues.

Just be here to explain the context.

  • That’s the northern and communist perspective you speak of.

While I agree that it’s context, there’s even more context to it than the communists would tell you about. South Vietnam wanted to be free from the communist rule that was present in the North at the time; they saw it as oppressive and unjust to their way of life.

The French government and U.S. government had their own agendas for being involved during the war, but none of it was for the greater good of the Vietnamese people.

When the war was lost and communism took over, many Vietnamese refugees felt the Vietnam they knew of was gone, hence why they represent the southern flag. It’s a sentiment of loss and resentment, similar to the concept of han in South Korean culture. Interestingly, the Vietnamese word “hận” means “hate” or “resentment.” Asian languages have many shared words, albeit with slight variations.

Me, I think war is brutal and the violence is senseless. People are really fighting and dying in wars for the selfish agendas of egotistical men.

Hanni is doing a great job representing Vietnam, South Korea, and the entirety of Asia. In the K-pop world, she’s putting on for Southeast Asians. To a lesser extent, also Australia if you want to consider that. As an Asian person in the West, I just want to see my Asian brothers and sisters thrive and unite. We’re blessed to have someone as talented, hardworking, down-to-earth, and charismatic as Hanni representing us.

Most people who are still living in a State controlled by a communist party (which as the only ruling party de facto in the People's Republic of China, the Republic of Cuba, the Lao People's Democratic Republic and the Socialist Republic of Vietnam) have been brainwashed by the propaganda of their rulling communist party that communism and being a communist is good.

Being anti-communist is seen as a good thing in the rest of the world.
