Did you ever try Korean beauty/make up brands?

  • Most of the experience I had so far was with fake brands, aka. some random store printed Korean letters allover their products and claimed they were made in Korea and some random person in store would probably "buy the concept" thinking it was real and that Koreans would use it in Korea, even if thats all BS and not true. I mean we all saw thise sheet masks in stores like Action who claim to be Korean but are actually from a random brand in the Netherlands.

    • But from real items I remember that many years ago I had a eye cooling stick from TonyMoly. Was OK, but for my liking too expensive since even tho its cheap in Korea here in Europe it was like 4x the price and 12€ is a lot for something that you just rub under your eye.
    • I also had a sheetmasks of a brand from Korea called Sugu before and one of Missha but they both were expensive AF back than cause it was 3,50€ for each and since items were in general a bit cheaper back than I felt a bit weird to buy them when brands from my country were like 0,50-1€ at that time.
    • I also tried a mascara, chushion makeup and lipstick from Holika Holika, each item was 10€ but I wasn't really a fan of the cushion makeup cause it made me look like if I was sweating and it felt sticky. I also did not quit liked the mascara since the wand wasn't suitable with my natural long lashes and did not much for me. But I really like the lipstick and still use it sometimes.
    • And since facemasks in most stores are now almost the same price from most brands I bought a row of facemasks by Missha again since they are now quit cheap with 1,89€ compared to 5 years ago where they were almost 2x of the price.

Do you had any experiences with Korean makeup and beauty produces? What did you buy, what brands was it and how did you liked them?

  • I’ve been using Missha Bb cream on and off for years. I find it works best in the winter where my skin is dry af. I’m also a big fan of Laneige skin care products. I love their toner a lot and their face cream too. Korean sunscreen is a hit or miss but I’m using the Japanese Biore sunscreen for years and it works great with me

  • i love korean beauty products, especially now they are more accessible as ever. they generally avoid alcohol denat. compared to japanese products which my skin loves more. i also like the "korean" brands (made in korea, US-based founders) such as krave, peach & lily. for recommendation i look up to olive young kr website.

i think with korean products you can depend on basics and hydration that you can use over and over again. for targeted purpose like acids or retinols, i don't find anything worth trying.

    several products that i like:

    • birch juice sunscreen from round lab bc i can buy in bulk
    • watery sun gel from isntree
    • wash-off masks from i'm from, especially honey one
    • olive hand cream from innisfree
    • cosrx snail mucin essence (better than most HA serums on US)
    • immeme and clio make up products, they're really pigmented than most korean high street brands
    • i want to try anything amore pacific but uuuhhh the price tag is not it.
  • I’ve used a lot of mediheal masks, which are fine…

I use Erborian CC and BB creams on the daily, but they’re really owned by L’occitane now so more Korean ‘inspired’.

Dr Jart, we sell in my shop. I enjoy the creepy cryo masks, their cicapair cc cream is good, but not as good as Erborian. The ceramidin range is fantastic for very dry, stressed skin. It used to be incredibly reasonably priced too but they put their prices up three or four times in the last year, which is a shame. The hydra biome water gel cream is a decent dupe for Dr Dennis gross hyaluronic marine.

I’m always hoping we’ll stock more K-brands at my company (I think they’re way behind the trends on this). It feels kind of ridiculous for me to spend out on testing K beauty when I have access to so much other stuff at work. Howeeeever, I do have a Beauty of Joseon Glow serum, which I love and the Cos.r.X snail power essence which is incredible on my ancient skin.

  • I've been using the Missha BB cream for probably 6 or 7 years now. It has the perfect shade and level of coverage for me. With other brands the lighter shades tend to be way too pink for my skin and it just looks silly when my face is a different shade than my neck and ears.

For skin care I love Cosrx and Benton products, be it their toners, moisturisers, serums or masks.

As for make up... I've always wanted to try Korean make up and have come really close to ordering a few palettes and lipsticks several times, but always changed my mind at the last second. I'm at the office all day, so makeup must be subtle enough to pass as no makeup, and where's the fun in that?

But maybe I should just go for it...

Because all I currently own are two neutral shades of cream eyeshadow by CT, one CT lipstick for special occasions and one drug store mascara and that's it. ^^;(

  • I use a wide variety of Korean skin care products. Lately, I have been really foud of the makep:rem sun care line. Their sun fluid is a pretty nice value and it's SPF 50 PA++++ I've really been digging their sun stick that I use for reapplication throughout the day. I used to use Innisfree Triple Care, but I moved to makep:rem for the sun stick and switched to that line entirely.

I also use various skin care products from Etude House, Tonymoly, Laneige, Klairs, Pyunkang Yul and Dr Jart. I can drop my routine if anyone is interested, lol.

I'm not a fan on Korean make-up. My usage of Korean Beauty products has given me a pretty good and even skin tone so that I no longer really need use a cushion/BB cream beyond a powder for spot coverage (niacinimide for PIH, ISTG). I find their eyeshadow not pigmented enough and use a San Francisco based brand called the Balm for most of my makeup.

  • I remember trying Sugu and Missha too, but they were a bit pricey for me at the time, but now I think they are a good option for the price.

  • Yeah but they didn’t make my skin any better so I stopped using them. Now I’m using skincare products that are made in my country and I’m much better off with them than anything else.

  • Yes. I'm currently using ISNTREE's Watery Sun Gel. Planning on re-stocking as well as trying out a cream cleanser from another company. Recently finished a Japanese drug store brand cleanser (I think it was Hada Labo) and I wasn't satisfied with the texture. Basically trying to find a dupe for Clinique's All About Clean Foaming Facial Soap. Both Shiseido and LANEIGE have ones with a similar feel, texture, and cleansing properties...but they are heavily fragranced.
