CEO Teddy is trying to turn blacklabel into an entertainment company

  • It's funny that Bogum originally auditioned for YG as a singer, now years later he signs with an YG affiliate. The rumors about him wanting to invest in singing seems true.

That reminds about Ella Gross which signed with TBL years ago, I wonder if she is gonna be in the TBLGG.

Wasn't there news about Zion.T leaving TBL some time ago, what happened to that? He still seems to be with them.

They haven't even set up a proper website, I was looking for an artist page in theblacklabel.com but the site is just a black background with their logo.

he's still in TBL but have his own label as well.

  • And it wasn't with Zion T or Somi😅

He's been collecting models since 2018, been auditioning for girl group idk it was just kinda obvious the Black Label doesn't really march to YGs beat

Teddy might have been content with maintaining a handful of artists/models that he could directly produce/manage. Until now, he could, but the company is growing too large for that with Bogum added to the roster as the first actor of what I assume will be an acting division with many more.

I like his strategy of starting with one or two big names, then slowly building up the roster.

Aparently, the rumors about Zion T. was that he was going to set up a one-man agency, but he ended up creating an agency called Standard Friends but for creators(?). He will still be an artist under TBL.

  • i just wonder, how much influence he has on producing BP, besides their music.

cos if he is such a genious, why Somi isn´t up to the task, i like her, but her music has been meh.

her career is stuck, i know it is tough to be a solo artist, but even with all the work and production behind her, she should be bigger. I don´t even see her promot anywhere besides music shows. Tell me if i am wrong.

Of course it is not fair to compair Somi with BP. But it shows that he lacks on raising his label artist. They are stuck with what their previous company taught them, i don´t see them emprove.

  • It's not as bad as you make it seem. Somi has one of the most streamed solo albums on Spotify.

Somi also promotes in a variety of places, many international. Mostly on Youtube, but they get very good views most of the time. For example, this Vogue (not Vogue Korea) video has the best views on the channel around the same time, except for Kim Kardashian's.

Somi also gets tons of brand deals (12 last year) which keep her in the public eye when she isn't releasing music.

  • Not going to happen.

Maybe years from now if Baby Monster becomes an NMixx and TBLGG is another Blackpink, Teddy might get enough influence to overtake YG or become head of both companies at the request of shareholders. I don't see that happening, though.

Baby Monster will probably do well enough to keep YG as the boss. YG is staking his name on the group, so he is clearly confident in them.

    I'm kidding my friend

don't take anything I say seriously lol

  • I think that there's one thing we can all agree on:

    Somi deserves more music.

Yes, but Teddy doesn't release anything until he's happy with it.

Somi has not even teased anything yet, so her comeback is probably at least 3 months away. That's at least 1.5 years between comebacks, when they should have used the momentum from her first hit.

Somi's release schedule is like an old veteran Idol's schedule that panders to long-time fans, but Somi is a young artist still building her career. At this point I'm just confused about Teddy and Somi's strategy.

It just seems like Somi has been put on the back-burner to make room for Blackpink, Taeyang, TBLGG, recruiting other artists (like Bogum) and all the other things related to growing TBL this year (including probably going public). Somi just can't catch a break with her agencies.

  • Yep...the whole Teddy situation with the "not releasing music unless it's more than perfect" sort of thing is really weird and very confusing. And the main difference with Teddy as the main producer and other groups is that they rarely have anyone else working on these tracks without Teddy being in the credits. The groups that release more music than these other artists are mainly because they have a very large variety of different producers in their projects.

And I agree with you that Somi is still a growing artist and she doesn't deserve the lack of comebacks. I don't see how this is a good tactic for anyone, especially someone who's being held back because of her lack of comebacks.

  • Both lol. I think that bp is restricted to his sound over time and wasn’t given chance to innovate. He did helped with their initial hits but like other groups they switch up and innovate their producers. I don’t get to see rose writing or getting involved with most of the bp album when she has the most potential. I think the dungeon is also created by teddy imo.

We'll know the truth once the girls' contract renewal talks are made public. If they stay at YG or go to TBL, all these rumors about Teddy being a controlling freak would end up being completely worthless. Every label on Earth will be going after them, the girls will be printing money for the rest of their lives given their massive loyal fanbases, either as soloists or as a group, regardless of which label they end up going to or whether they even stay together. If they give up all that and stay with Teddy, we'll know for sure that they were fine with their "mistreatment" over all these years

The Black Label plans to start working on attracting investment in earnest once the nominee Jeong officially joins the group.

In the current venture investment market, the corporate value of The Black Label is about 300 billion won. The size of the procurement has not been confirmed yet, but it is expected to be at least 50 billion won.

Based on the funds secured by attracting investment, The Black Label plans to recruit big domestic artists, strengthen record production capabilities, and expand overseas business.
