My coworker thought "KPOP" was a group's name

  • So I was telling a coworker that I'm a fan of kpop.

Him: Oh I've heard of them

    Me: Who?

    Him: Kpop.

    Me: Which groups?

    Him: Kpop isn't a group?

    Bruh

    :skull:

So he's heard that "kpop" is getting more popular but had never heard any songs or knows any groups lol. Anyway, I've been trying to introduce him to "kpop" now lol

  • At least it's not like back when my former coworker found out about it

C1: "Your fave genre is KPop?"

Me: "Uh how did you know?"

C1: "You wore this one hoodie" (In 2017 I had a BTS hoodie that I wore a few times)

    Me: "Oh?"

C1: "And than I figured the words on this hoodie are a music group right?"

Me: "Uh yeah, might make sense..."

    C2: "Ew BTS"

    Me: "Em ok ?!?!"

C1: "Haha yeah... Thats so odd"

    Me: "What?"

C3: "Lol why would anyone ever like KPop?"

C2: "Hahah yeah same, why do you not listen to normal music?"

C1: "What's even normal? I'm 22 and listen to jazz!"

C2: "Jazz is more normal than KPop"

  • I hate that some people dismiss all of kpop based on their preconceived notions. Kpop has a ton of groups and different sounds/ influences. It's ignorance

  • I bet they listen to shit X(

It is better, but people still don't pay that much attention. Another woman I know has actually seen BTS live but still didn't know their name or their music. I mentioned i liked kpop and she said she's seen one group and then we went through this whole question thing for me to narrow down who it was.

  • I bet they listen to shit X(

Not really, they listen to the "You don't know them cause of the crap you listen to"

I remember oneday some sport-event near us played music and it was a song by Kelly Rowland. I knew it but forgot the name so I said "I know this song, just forgot the name" and one guy literally said "You don't know this, you listen to this dumb KPop" -.-

    It's not only KPop

I also got dumb looks by people for JPop and CPop

Once someone did a dumb joke on KPop calling it "Chinese music" and I said "This is wrong, they arn't chinese but I do listen to Chinese music" the guy than asumed I was listening to Chinese music like this:

  • it reminds me a story told by a book seller on twitter.

    - hi, do you have mangas?

    - yes of course (points to manga filled shelves)

    - great, i'm looking for volume #26 please

    - which series?

    - manga

    - i know, but of which series?

    - oh I don't know anything about that, I just want the voume #26 of manga

    - that's fine, but it just makes as much sense as if you were asking for volume #1 of book

    - no no, it's about manga

    - i guess it is...

  • I proudly wear my Mamamoo swag anywhere when I'm in the mood, and one time I was fully Mamamoo fitted on a trip to the corner grocery store.

As I checked out, the cashier looked at my shirt, paused and asked:

    "Are those the Spice Girls?"

Mind you, my shirt was a graphic t with the four faces of Mamamoo covering the entire front side of the shirt.

I then politely explained who they were, but it didn't make the miscue any less hilarious.

I've also bumped into several K-Pop fans, and even Mamamoo fans, who would've otherwise never revealed that to me if I wasn't wearing the K-Pop swag, so you never know where fellow fans may be lurking.

Life is too short to be ashamed of your passions and hobbies, friends.

  • Why was he even looking for manga without knowing what it was? And specifically #26? Lol

  • Has.. has that person ever seen the spice girls?

Oh, everyone I know knows that I'm a kpop fan. I have merch in my office

  • which group

Lol i linked one of their songs above.

You know this convo reminds me of the time Hyungwon got asked what genre Jealousy was and he answered "kpop".
