Why do most new users never talk?

Maybe they're shy or maybe this place doesn't give off good vibes. I can understand.
-
maybe theyre shy
-
Probably because they read the things I say and are afraid I'll respond.

they just want to read stuff

Simple..lurk phase.

Lurking and they're shy and don't have any friends yet, I was shy for my first 1000 posts and so
-
I don't think so. I just opened an incognito tab and could read posts.
we should all make a collaborative effort and tag a new user a week or something and encourage them to post

I don't dislike the idea.
I've tried in the past when I've seen a newbie on while we were going to kick off some forum games.
I mean, they all ignored me, but I can keep trying!

I just responded to two newbies since you're so encouraging.
We'll see if my enthusiasm for (G)I-DLE doesn't scare them away.

i like AKP, but sometimes it can be a bit like a clique, especially with certain fandoms / guilds. there are people here who have known each other for 3+ years, so i'm guessing it can be a bit intimidating for new users to try to find their place. and new users will be searching through the main form - seeing the most popular threads, which tend to be toxic / overwhelming. most people who are still here either put up with the toxicity well, or know how to navigate the forums (i.e. block users / sections they don't like, avoid anons, etc.,)
so it's a mix of not being used to the site's formula, and it being hard to actually get noticed / have a presence.
