Do you guys consider these measures extreme?

  • I live in Greece and I'm wondering if I'm living in a dictatorship these days.

Do you consider the below measures extreme?

    1. Going out ONLY after sending an SMS to a certain government number, carrying your ID citing the specific reason you're going out.
    2. Not allowed to go out from 6pm to 5am unless it's an emergency (like going to the doctor or the pharmacy) and walking your dog.
    3. Paying a fine of 300€ (convert this to your currency) for going out without wearing a mask or if the police judges you're out without a plausible reason. (even if you forgot your ID). You pay 3000€ if you have over 9 people in your house. Or if they suspect you're hosting a party.
    4. Close EVERY business besides a few take away food businesses, super markets and pharmacies for about 4 months in a row (still going, most closed ones are bankcrupt now, receiving only 500€ a month for compensation, even with people having their families starving).
    5. Not being allowed to go back to the city where your school is unless it's the Army or Doctor school, or if you work there.

And all these with the infections being higher than summer when we were open and free without masks. The infected numbers are only rising with these measures, so why is this going on if its ineffective? Don't you think it's extreme?

In the meantime, the Prime Minister breaks his own measures and has a party with 30 people in an island, no masks, with the police guarding him. And going on a ski trip with his wife and having the audacity to share it.

Also, the police force seems to have fun with it, as they're paid a bonus for the number of fines they give to people, as well as using their power to use violence against anyone who questions their authority.

We started rioting, we receive no apology, the governemt is not quitting for failing so miserably and I noticed the foreign media still tells people in Greece dealed well with the pandemic. I, as an inhabitant, see only our financial and health demise.

Please tell me what you think about it, as people from other countries. I'm honestly very curious at this point, I think I'm going crazy, living like that for 4 months now. I can't go out without thinking that they're going to give me a fine if they're not in a good mood. Seriously! I believe we're almost a dictatorship at this point.

  • if you start second-guessing yourself and have to ask other people whether you live in a free society or not, then there's your answer. sorry but the govt owns you now but still, best of luck to you and your people

  • may I ask if kids are going to school in Greece or they have all online classes?

Thank you. I was just second-guessing because some people seem like they're not bothered by this stuff. They seem to buy the 'for a healthy society' stuff and I'm concerned.

They all have online classes now. They used to open and close schools like it was nothing though. One week open schools, then closing for a month and repeat, during these months.

  • I mean its a bit extreme but i lived that in 2020.

Cops asked me to stop while going to my work place in my car and checked my work ID to corroborate i was going to my office and it was necessary to go..

Like physically. And not only cops, militares too

Woah I see. That's just a bit extreme to me. Would they fine you or arrest you if found something was amiss? Like forgetting your ID?

  • but that's covid for ya

and besides there's a time lag between the numbers of cases and the implementation of lockdowns i think

Yeah but that's quite different from controlling a pandemic, it's more like controlling the people and messing with the economy while at it.

We had about 50-90 infections before these measures and these last weeks, after 4 months of strict lockdown, the infected rise up to 2000+. And there was literally no one going around during these months, everyone was avoiding each other like the plague.

So if these measures failed are they even necessary? Let alone, get even stricter than that?

  • Wow, Greece is really controlled. Is it a super controlled country overall or did they get more strict because of the pandemic? And is it still going on?

They got stricter after it began. And it still goes on to no end. They say we will open and always delay it...

People are tired, many of them will be forced to become unemployed AND homeless because of the gov's crap. I am also ready to lose my job anytime with things heating up here.

Like, I read in other countries you guys are mostly open and you just use masks... Why can't they do that here?

    Our prime minister even suggested

to the European Union a "mandatory vaccination" plan and we're like :pepe-back-away:

    He must fking quit already.

  • Experienced some of those last year..but it sounds like they really have you guys on "clink, clink" (lock).

Yeah, it's driving us crazy. And they actually use a lot of propaganda as well as refusing to show the country's disappointment by hiding numbers and facts from the media.

Sad thing is, there are some people who still believe them and are scared.

I am not a specialist in such areas

i can only comment on what i've seen in my own region which is australia and in my state we've had 1 case of community transmission in the past 10 months i think...

everything is back to normal here and we dont even have to wear masks outside...

  • Wow, I feel bad for you guys...stay safe and I will pray for you <3

Yes, I live in the U.S.A and it's true that in most places we're good to go wherever with a mask and social distancing.

Actually there were around 1680 on Sunday before the second lockdown that started in some areas on November 3rd.

And I am afraid a lot of people have been out and about all this time.

A lot of workplaces never closed, school were open and probably made things worse after Christmas based on the number of them that had to close due to cases, along with the sales season that lasted a couple of weeks and there have been riots with thousands of people a lot. And most churches had more than the people that were supposed to have there. A lot of them without masks too.

What's true though is that the government fucked up big time.

And the future seems bleak because of their extreme incompetence.

  • And to answer your question, it's too much. It's not working and it won't work no matter how long it will last.

They had months to prepare and did nothing.

They are hypocrites who don't even set the good example.

And the police behavior is alarming.

This is truly shocking, but I'm glad you guys are back to normal! I'm so jealous of you now.

I'm about to forget what it feels like to go out for a coffee or like... Normal life, without a mask.

we have a great state leader and great national leader (or so i think) who controlled it fairly well...

during that 1 case of community transmission - our leaders imposed lockdowns for (about 5 days) and masks and all...

no further cases - partial lockdowns next week

no further cases after that - back to normal..

it just reminds me of how lucky we are

  • It's the thing that they got to collectively close and open and close and open all over certain sections all the time. It is so stupid it could only happen here.

The people also lost trust in them for their lies about the pandemic (no mask needed for healthy people and then suddenly after the ordered masks arrived from abroad, they decided everyone should wear them)

The doctors the government chose to represent the NHS were most likely paid to say whatever suited the government.

I believe none of them anymore.

I think a revolution is in the process right now. If only there weren't that many stupid people blindly believing everything or political party fanatics, we would probably be away with it already.

A few people marching and protesting won't do much. We need more than that to achieve what we want.
