Do Kpop companies really make a huge amount of money in China?

  • Correct me if I'm wrong, but from what I read about american movies screening in China, the chinese theaters takes like 70% of the ticket sales. Could this happen the same with Kpop albums in China as well? Companies do make a profit, but not as much as we think we do since China probably takes over 50% of the sales anyways.

Changed the title of the thread from “Do Kpop companies really make a huge amount of sales in China?” to “Do Kpop companies really make a huge amount of money in China?”.

    Well

we have a Case like Everglow that's founded by a Chinese agency and Korean's won't buy anything of theirs cause the money is going to the Chinese

so it's hard to say since they have histories worth of beef with each other :melon_think:

  • Movie theaters usually took around 50% of the profit from the ticket sales. And even if that 70% numbers are true, I don't think it's that outrageous since for the production companies, they basically produce it one time and selling them forever without spent a single penny. The movie theaters bear all the cost that come after.

And for the album, since most fans or bars bought the albums from outside of China and the album itself was "donated" a.k.a never shipped to China to get taxed, I don't think that something like dividing the profit with Chinese gov exist.

  • I forgot that she was Yuehua entertainment :check-bee:

my guess is that cause since she was a member of Iz*One the public supports her ( internationally of course) idk about Korean public, but she seems to be doing well so i do see your point

South Korean hate towards Japan is far worse compared to China, but they do still consume huge amounts of Japanese products, so I don't think Everglow flopped mainly because of the anti-China sentiment.

Yena is doing better domestically, and I never heard anything or anyone mentioning her company. Idk, maybe because people stopped caring about it since Tempest didn't hit with that kind of rumor either.

i guess we will never truly know :pepe-notes:

  • This surprised me a little, I know they have Yuqi, but still.

  • Yes. They make a fair amount of money IN china, not just from China.

The tweets above show the picture. Whilst I can't talk about all, I can say Idle's deal with Netease is fairly favourable. They signed an exclusive contract for higher revenue share, and it hasn't hurt them sales wise, as evidenced above.

Only issue with Netease exclusivity is Billboard China only counts QQ, so doesn't show up on all metrics.

The difference is even though we hate Japan because of alot of past issues including ww2 . Atlest Japan is not hostile to us and does engage in favorable trading and is willing to participate in military alliances. On the other hand China is literally an enemy of South Korea, they prop up support and defend the kim regime in the North and has intervened in the Korean war to make our nation separate. We have no love for China.

In addition to it's recent troubles it has caused us has moved China to a point its just as much if not more hated than Japan plus considering the fact it's a hostile nation to us many folk are not too against having China turned into a nuclear hellscape. Years ago people would be disgusted at the idea. Now? That's starting to change to be more accepting. This has become more apparent as newer provocations over this week and the past few months from the north is a reminder of that including a ballistic missile that landed less than 60km from our shore it was enough that the first time in a literal decade that we were forced out of homes and wherever and rushed to underground bomb shelters. Those air raid sirens always make the hair on your skin stand up. Everytime shit like that happens people say "yea they continue this because China coddles them fuck China "

But yes kpop and many other industries make alot of money which is why so many bend over backwards for some Chinese Yuan, but with everything going on is starting to get agencies and artists to distance themselves from China. Including sm entertainment and LSM he wouldn't talk about China right now when literally yesterday north Korea fired a fucking missile that landed nearby and everyone knows they do it because China always supports them.
