KPop-agencies do this all the time.

I remeber that a former IN2IT member had also a insane number he apparently owed his company (300K or something) and that boy back than complained since he had no job, never earned money, etc. etc. and than they threatened him he has to ask his parents, but his mom never worked before and his dead was super sick and couldn't work and had no money to even go see the doctor ... another time a company uselessly tried to sue a former SONAMOO member and she had to pay 150K where everyone wondered wtf why since she also wasn't even payed before

Government needs to consolidate the industry. It sucks for the kids in all the nugu labels, but it could be best for all of them if the government just shut down all these sketchy boiler room operations and let the kids move on to other careers, free of debt and the enormous stress.

Consolidate Kpop into maybe 7 megalabels (Hybe, YG, SM, JYP, Kakao, CJ, MBC) and a few higher profile midmajors like Cube, RBW and Woolim. 15 total labels, 50 groups at any one time.

Taedong (now in Omega X, poor boy) wasn't allowed to debut in JBJ by his former company who tricked him into signing an artist contract instead of a trainee contract and they blacklisted him for years. He couldn't work in the industry and they stuck a huge amount of trainee debt on him. He slept 2 hours per day and worked 4 jobs to try to pay off his debt and to be able to keep training and go to some classes on his own (he'd practice at night).

I read something similiar for JPop too and watched an interview a Youtuber did with a former idol some days ago. The former idol in the interview, she worked 2 jobs because she earned no money. Her company was one of those who only let her and her group perform on events where not even any artist gets money from and when they earn 10-20 bucks from selling merch than the girls have to give 70% to their agency and she said it was nothing since she barly sold any merch. She was so Fd after 2 years so she decided to leave. In her case she became an idol after the CEO of her company just saw her walking around and said "yo do you want to be an idol?" and she had no clue what to even do as idol so she just accepted the offer.

This is also one of the reasons why so many groups and artists in Japan work indipendent cause they don't want to loose the allready short money they earn to an agency and want creative freedom

Can they appeal?

This is why company and industry stans should be educated and shunned if they are too far gone. Almost all companies will screw over their artists/employees if they can get away with it. To ever think that a company will always to what their artists want is dumb. The industry is setup to support these entertainment companies in using and abusing their artists. If SK doesn’t care about victims of the wealthy and powerful, then why would they care about idols.
