  • honestly sth like this is overboard. ideally, in a perfect world companies/countries would not do business with countries that violate human rights...but that's not reality. it's an unreasonable request to make that serves no purpose.

As someone that works in the realm of human rights, EVERY state/country violates human rights. There are no country in the world with zero human rights violations committed by the government/State/people in power etc. I mean the US and UK has a long history of human rights violations and if KPOP stans were to uphold this human rights standard, their faves would never be able to tour there too. I also find it telling that they highlight countries in Asia abusing human rights but completely ignoring allll that the history of how Western countries became ‘developed’ by colonization and exploitation (human rights violations too, right) of countries around the world. I mean there are native Hawaiian trying to tell the truth of how their islands were colonized by the US and their lands taken away, their rights to practice their culture were ignored, and to this day their struggles continue with many can’t even afford to stay there anymore.

also....between you and me...cuz this is a secret but....KOREA VIOLATES RIGHTS TOO. Their laws regarding rape, pedophilia, and child porn are nonexistent.

Remember that guy that raped a little girl till her organs leaked out? He got out of jail and moved into the same neighborhood the kid lived in and got state security for it.

Remember that chat distributing child porn and rape porn filled with dozens of people? Not a single person from that went to jail.

so um....what are they gonna do about that? I love that those ppl actually think they're doing something when they're not. They are not the heroes they think they are.

If anything the hero is you.

  • Sadly not just in SK where women and children don’t get protection and justice for being victims of sexual crimes and exploitation. It is suppose to be innocence until guilty but for victims of sex crimes, the victims are shamed and are seen as the guilty party instead of the perpetrator (especially men with money or influence).

The case you shared highlights Korean govt’s failure and weakness to protect women and children from sexual exploitation (which is a human rights violations too).

Also in Article 27 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, everyone is entitled to enjoy cultural events. This means that average citizens of a country should not be prevented from enjoying cultural practices, events for any reasons, including political fights. The average person are not their government and by denying them the right to learn and enjoy cultural things - it’s also a violation of the citizens’ human rights.

Also, the last thing I wanted to share is that many ppl Cherry pick which human rights is more important blah blah and this is false. Per international standard, all human rights are equal and apply to all and there is no specific rights that is more important than others —- only a prioritization of interventions due to violations that cause immediate serious harms e.g., killing or silencing indigenous advocates fighting to their land and way of life etc.

Are we even surprised? BTS have always been the first to do things that others in kpop before them have hesitated to do. Because no one wants to touch the fire. But everyone wants to walk through that path....

  • Now everyone is logical, mature and calm it’s amazing.

I remember when BTS did their concert in Saudi, we have so many righteous indignation posts. We said the exact same thing like users here but it was drowned by so many outcries.

It’s so obvious that perception will change when you like/dislike something.

We also had people contacting Amnesty International and other human right organizations to make them shame BTS.

A whole ass campaign with nasty # on twt (which is ''funny'' because SA also has investment into Twitter - so by the logic they shouldn't even use this platform)

  • Personally, i dont get what the big deal is. I saw some random TW clips from Saudi Arabia and it was damn cute the way the fans responded to the group, i think it was Newbeans. They're just diehard Kpop fans who happened to be from SA and who were fangirling like crazy over their faves, it's not that deep.

I understand that. But why when BTS did it, so many kpop fans were up with their pitchforks as if BTS did something horrible?

Where are the hypocrites now? Kpoppies are masters of selective criticisms.

Next point of hypocrisy will be when another kpop group gets invited to the White House for the yearly AANHPI. All is wrong and disrespectful until their own faves do it. The outrage will turn to deafening silence.

As usual, BTS had to put themselves in the line of fire in order for the succeeding group to be able to do it seamlessly. BTS had to bear the fury and indignation in order for the next group to be cheered on.
