They shouldn't completely ignore it, but... it was not a terrible mistake. They can tour and sell a lot in the u.s and even europe while still being able to tour japan.

As a chart watcher and success stan, i woulda preferred Japan over China, since no one respects Chinese popularity while yearning for Japanese acceptance.
But Chinese popularity does have the benefit of massive $$$ with virtually no cost. They don't have to tour there, promote there, or make Chinese versions of songs to gain fans and attention.

Some people pretend that Japan isn't the second biggest music market. Its not a blunder at all.

Of TWICE's 12.7m Physical sales in SK and Japan, 3.8m are Japan released Physicals while 1.1m of their Korean Albums have been sold in Japan. To date they have seated 500k+ in Concert Sales with an estimated 80k if they sell out their up n coming fan meeting.
NiziU is doing well in Japan, later there will be Auditions for their brother group.
JYPE's Japan Activities is largely managed through JYPE Japan as well as Sony Japan and Warner Music Japan.
Maybe they're just not into singing in Japanese.
