One day if Hybe decides to sell 7 versions (1 for each member), then that will reach 10M album sales. Now, make that 14 versions, then they may reach 15M albums sales or more.
But of course other groups will take the cue. Album versions may reach 30-40 to catch up.

Kpop has grown a lot the past few years after BTS got famous worldwide and there are a lot of new fans so it's not surprising the sales increased.
The pandemic thing is true too. It was the only way for a fan to support their artist.
Plus, a lot of companies know that a lot of groups can only get big numbers through album sales, as streams and digitals success is not something most groups can have. So that's their only way to earn more money and get those bragging rights.

There are a lot of factors that went into this and not all of them can be attributed to BTS. People have already mentioned the pandemic which I feel had a very significant impact in both people's focus and spending habits.
What can be attributed to BTS is the increase in both western popularity and western distribution - and yes some of it was clout chasing at its finest - but the end result was net beneficial - more of the western market was checking out KPOP in general. The western market is the richest right now and expanding KPOP avenues into that paid dividends. That part is undeniable
