RE : IVE and New Jeans are the new Twice and Black Pink

I think the comparison is solely in relation to the successfulness of the two prior groups rather than any similarities in concepts or styles

People like to have these narratives and storylines and especially when it comes to the mythical "4th Generation" people have been desperate to assert it for Years now

heck they even tried to imply (G)I-dles debut was some kind of signal of the start of a new generation whilst 3rd Gens Girl Groups biggest hit (DDDD) was being released at the same time, which becomes more and more absurd with each passing year that BlackPink is still on top

Truth is it is more than possible neither IVE or NewJeans will ultimately be even Top 5 in the 4th Generation, like we don't even know all the contenders yet or when we will officially turn the page to the era of this 4th Generation

The only similarity between ive and twice is that their bsides don't do well. Ive even worse because they are only putting out single albums yet no attention for those bsides. (no pun intended). Gp's perception of ice and twice discography might be the same which begs the question what is starship going to do to fix it?

We cannot move onto a 5th Generation when 4th Gen never defined Kpop

1st Gen had 1st Gen acts as the Leaders of Kpop obviously

2nd Gen had 2nd Gen acts as the Leaders of Kpop SNSD and BigBang etc. took over from the 1st Gen

3rd Gen had 3rd Gen acts as the Leaders of Kpop BTS and BlackPink etc. took over from the 2nd Gen

4th Gen has 3rd Gen acts as the Leaders of Kpop? nobody takes over and we just move onto 5th Gen??

No, with the benefit of hindsight this perspective will change, as you are already seeing with (G)I-dle less and less people consider them 4th Gen every year and with their contracts coming up in 2 years it is very possible that they will debut have their entire careers and disband all during BlackPink's reign which would make it silly to claim they weren't a part of the same Era of Kpop

I suspect (G)I-dle and maybe even Itzy will ultimately be remembered as late 3rd Gen groups like how Apink is late 2nd

COVID really fucked up the landscape for 4th gen. 3rd Gen was able to hold on longer, debuts were delayed, and the industry ground to a halt. It's only now that we're really starting to see 4th gen able to mature and take on 3rd gen head to head. I'd say COVID by itself forced a generational change simply because of how many groups had to disband and debuts were delayed. The gap is pretty clear in that regard.

If anything Id expect a lot of anticipation for their bsides on future mini or full album

for a single album, i am expecting much more especially with how popular their singles are in korea. Even on the international side, not impressed with spotify streams of their bsides. Starship needs to do something about that. Give more promo to their bsides.

I dont think starship making b sides for charts for now, despite my satisfaction did well with no promo
