RE: is IVE already a popular group or trendy group right now?

  • They've had 2 consecutive comebacks to hit the top of the charts along with their debut. No other 4th gen group period has achieved this yet. They have surpassed being strictly trendy.

  • So what if the other girls gain bigger fanbases but Wonyoung is still the most popular? At one point will they as a group be considered popular? What does it take?

I just don't think they would be big without Wonyoung and Yujin. Look what happened to Weki Meki despite having two IOI members

Two comebacks isn't really that much. Oh My Girl also had two hits but I don't see them ANYWHERE now

Interesting take, but I don't see how Wonyoung and Yujin having a big fanbase take away from the fact that IVE are popular.

Okay, so if 2 comebacks isn't enough? How many? 3, 4, 5? Where's the line? Just curious of your opinion.

Oh I do agree they're growing quickly but lots of fanbases that expand quickly also tend to fade at the same pace. I have seen a good amount of appeal for all members though. Liz especially charmed lots of korean fans

IMO it mostly comes down to longevity. How would Love Dive or After LIKE be doing in a month or two for example?

I actually don't think they're that far from being popular all things considered. I do hope they'll have a stable career

Well, it's not like all those Wonyoung and Yujin fans are all akgaes. There are also many of them who ends up liking the group as a whole.

But yeah, if you just see it only like that, then who am I to correct you.

I agree with After Like, but Love Dive's longevity is crazy.

The fact it came out 4 months ago and is right up there with After Like is testament to it's power. But yeah, we'll see After Like's longevity. So far though, IVE has been the most consistent 4th gen group with 3 back to back hits.

No other group has done that. It might be due to IVE's limited discography and how soon they came back, but 4th gen competition for girl groups has been VERY hostile, and so far IVE have not faltered. We'll see if they can keep it up.

  • naw bro stay focused on your yujin wonyoung narrative for 5 years please. your pretty set on it. let them have 7 years after contract expires than we can talk if their popular or not smh. whats popular to you? i mean they go overseas and their entire song being sang by german fans. dream concert same. they hitting back to back rank 1 charts. what is popular to you? as soon as they exit out of the toilet and mobbed by fans? they are the moment. they are popular right now. all these down the road are speculation. look what's in front of you. if they aren't popular they be sellin 20k album not almost 1 million in 5 days.

Tbh I don't follow charts so I don't know that much but this was interesting! Now that I'm reading more about them I would say they're popular or at lesst becoming

Love Dive is realistically the song with the most longevity this year, released 5 months ago and is still 6 on melon, all the 5 songs in front of it were released this month

  • How different is being trendy and popular actually?

They are pretty much the same, but I think the insinuation in the OP anon is that trendy is temporary/popular for the moment, and being "popular" means their group has some longevity and won't be overtaken by the next big thing.

We've seen most 4th gen GGs go through this trend where they are the hottest topic and the next #1 GG to officially end the 3rd gen (or more specifically BP), and then they have a comeback that underperforms and now they are flops. Which I guess makes sense since we have seen back to back extremely successful GG debuts which is highly unusual, and the standards have been raised exponentially. There's a lot of pressure to have consistent hits. Not even like decent hits but top 10/top 5 hits.

Atm all 4th gen ggs are trendy more than being a household name. We'll have to see how they do some years later.
