The problem is that the star power of BTS, BP, and Twice and individual 3rd gen idols like Hwasa is still too strong, newer groups cant capture the attention of the public when these 3rd gen brands are still shining brightly.

I somewhat agree. But maybe that's just because I like 2nd gen music a lot more than 4th gen music.

Honestly the best metric right now to judge what is catching on is YouTube views since that's what most new kpop fans seem to care the most about and the metric so many 3rd gen stans hang their hats on. So I'm that respect itzy, g-idle, Everglow, and aespa are doing pretty well.

Alright, but op is talking about korean charts, everglow are nonexistent there. Itzy started out well but has been declining a lot and aespa did bad for big3 standards. Actually I think youtube views are like the worst metric when so many groups get a shitton of ads

I wish older groups were dominating. The old gen groups were the best imo and today’s can’t compare. It’s just different now but I guess things have to change.

difference is by the time twice, blackpink, and mmm were debuting 2gen groups were on the downturn while most 3 gen groups are still rising

Was going to make another thread about this but you already made it lol but 2nd gen is really showing their dominance.

From Lee Hyori x Rain x Yoo Jae Suk collaboration, SHINee, IU and Brave Girls resurrection all topping the charts is proving this to be somewhat true. Though, I do hope Brave Girls can keep the momentum going. With the chart update I think they probably will.

But 2PM is also having a comeback too. Imagine if the trends keeps going and they do well too
