Idol's diets around comeback time are too severe

  • Key usually eats alot of snacks in nolto, now he just stood back and nibbled a little bit of the sauce on his chopsticks

  • honestly diet culture in kpop is terrible. idols talk about being healthy, but with the way they talk about dieting and film themselves not eating makes starving seem glamorous when its really just miserable.

yeah that clip does really look sad

Plus shinee members were told not to diet by their psychiatrist. They stayed away from diets for a good while. I'm 2022 both Onew and Key stared dieting again sigh

its definitely the pressure of having to look perfect in the kpop industry. dieting is a really quick way to look better on camera, so I can't blame them. It's just terrible for the body and makes fans want to copy their behaviour.

  • I agree. I still remember Woojin’s corn diet and being angry at the company/staff for having him go on it (basically, he only ate a small cup of plain corn a day and that was it). Then there’s IU and Jimin’s diets, both of which went way too far. Jin’s chicken breast diet (I think he pretty much exclusively ate chicken breasts for a full year?). Dare I mention Momo’s ice cube diet, where she ate only ice cubes for ten days in a row in order to meet the weight requirement to debut? She even mentioned that it was really scary and really hard later on.

Companies need to back off. Personally, I think a great idea would be for each company to get a professional dietitian. If the idol chooses to and wants to lose weight, they set up a meeting with said dietician to safety and slowly lose weight while still being healthy eating a balanced diet. These extreme ones are not healthy for the idols or the fans.

    Ice cube diet????? That's just..............nothing

    wtf

  • it's sometime a mental thing

They might not gain weight in their off time but bc of the pressure of looking good for comeback they feel like they need to cut back even more

many idols definitely DO gain weight noticeably throughout promotion period

    its a never ending cycle

weirdest part is that idols are quite lean and physically active so its not like their metabolism is low

when you're physically at a professional level like athletes ( idols are pretty close too ) its actually HARD to gain weight

being skinny is not unhealthy at all

not giving your body food to get skinny is very unhealthy

i wish they could just find a happy middle ground

hiring a proper medical dietitian should become a standard in kpop

  • i dont understand why dont they just eat at maintenance all year round with slight adjustments according to activity level rather than constantly being on the weight gain weight loss cycle

once you start the cycle it's quite hard to get out of. and, I think that most idols diet so it creates are sort of mental pressure/culture because they want to be successful in their comeback and stuff sigh. most models starve before big fashion weeks too, even though they are already thin lol.

  • weirdest part is that idols are quite lean and physically active so its not like their metabolism is low

eyy dieting messes up your metabolism. I think starving also leads to bingeing so its easy to gain weight wuickly if they go from dieting to suddenly eating junk food.

  • yeah but metabolism is highly adaptible

it changes real quick based on your body's needs

true true. probably alot of idols binge on junkfood after dieting/comeback is over, so they gain noticeable weight. I know some idols have talked about how they ended up binging on stuff after comebacks, and its a common cycle.

i know starvation diets eventually lead to junk food binging, or worse, anorexia

thats why i use they could hire a proper dietitian to maintain their ideal weight all year round without putting their body through pain

shouldnt be that hard in a country full of college graduates

  • i dont understand why dont they just eat at maintenance all year round with slight adjustments according to activity level rather than constantly being on the weight gain weight loss cycle

Because sometimes this said idols are bulimic because of the stress they go through they ended eating too much which lead them to gain weight a lot of idols idols shared these episodes of over eating it's a never ending cycle where they gain and lose weight all year long

  • I can most definitely agree with this. It’s so harmful not only to an idol’s health, but to a fan’s health as well if imitated. The mental aspect of it is concerning also. Fans may follow their behavior and do a lot of damage to themselves without realizing it. The unrealistic body standards is just out of this world, and it makes me sad for idols/fans affected alike.
