Do you think non-Koreans/Foreigners can still become singers in Korea?

  • Do you think non-Koreans/Foreigners can still become singers in Korea? 3

    1. Yes (3) 100%
    2. No (0) 0%

    I saw an Instagram post from P Nation and from OUI Entertainment that they are having auditions for anyone under any age from any country under the category of Vocal, Rap, Dance, Acting and Modelling. I know that in order to become a K-Pop idol star, you must atleast be under the age of 22, just my opinion. However, there are many Korean singers such as Paul Kim, Crush, Grass etc. who are great singers but they are not K-Pop idol stars at all.

    So lately I've been thinking, what if I audition for them? I'm a 94-liner, if I atleast debut once as singer, model or even as an MC with a distinct image, not as an idol star and have a CD of my own voice in Korea, that would be good enough for me. Yet I don't know as there are too many variables in life. Forget about me, what you think generally? Can non-Koreans or Foreigners can become singers in Korea?

    ~~~Let's Get Going~~~
  • Non-Koreans definitely can, but idk about non-Asians. I suppose anything is possible, you just need that breakthrough person.
    I know there are non-Asians who are sort of famous in Korea. The guys from that panel show have popped up in K-Dramas and ads and I believe there are two white dudes hosting South Korean Foreigners on TV.
  • yes but dont expect to accepted as one of them "authentic kpop idols" if you're not east asian or south east asian with east asian look
    european mixes seem pretty accepted too
    basically, dont look or sound too different for them, or no matter how skilled you are, you will always be THE FOREIGNER
  • I mean, multiple non asian foreigners have done it. The question is will they be successful?
    You see, my take on this whole "foreigner become Kpop idol" is generally one of confusion.
    For one, why go out of your way to become a celebrity in a smaller music market where you'll have a harder time being accepted in the industry versus just pursing a career in music in your own country??? Kpop is, after all, just pop music and you don't need to be in the Korean entertainment industry to be a pop idol.
    For another, the non asian foreigners who do pursue being a Kpop idol have like ZERO star quality. I'm sorry, but I have to say it. If you wouldn't be able to become a star in your own country what makes you think you have what it takes to become one in a foreign one? They don't meet the visual standards, they can't dance, and they can't sing. They stick out too much and just feel like a token member.
    That being said, is it possible to find success as a non asian foreigner? I definitely think so. The problem is, it needs to be a project made by a big named company that doesn't just pick up the first foreigner that they can find off the streets of Hongdae. That, and they need good marketing and good production and to be promoted a lot more to the West than to the East.
    SM, JYP, and Bighit are planning to do localized groups soon, so will we see. While I don't have any faith in SM when it comes to capturing rhe Western Market, I think JYP and Bighit definitely have the potential to hit it big with their groups.
  • great post
    most foreigners who wanna be idols are pure korboos, not skilled people with realistic goals and a life path
